Handy Person/Maintenance Assistant - Full Time

Novotel Devonport is seeking an experienced handy person/maintenance assistant for their 187-room hotel overlooking the Mersey River. The role involves the maintenance and upkeep of all property rooms, grounds, facilities, and common areas. The ideal candidate will perform general repairs, assist the Maintenance Manager, ensure excellent working order of hotel areas, carry out scheduled maintenance, and assist with records and third-party contractors, all while prioritizing urgency and safety.

Must Have

• Perform general maintenance and repairs in the hotel
• Assist the Maintenance Manager in day-to-day maintenance
• Ensure all guest rooms, public areas, and service areas are in excellent working order
• Carry out maintenance requirements as scheduled by PMS
• Assist in keeping up-to-date records on repair and maintenance
• Conduct regular inspections of hotel equipment, machinery, and systems
• Ensure all tasks are performed with urgency and in the safest manner possible
• Communicate effectively with hotel staff to address urgent maintenance concerns
• Excellent communication skills
• Comfortable in a physical role
• Self-motivated, punctual and reliable
• Basic knowledge of general repair work or DIY
• Competent in the use of basic computer programs
• Workplace Health and Safety knowledge
• Ability to accommodate flexibility with shifts, including weekends

Good to Have

• Previous handyman/maintenance experience in a hotel or guest service environment

Job Description

• Performing general maintenance and repairs in the hotel
• Assist the Maintenance Manager in the day-to-day maintenance requirements of the hotel
• Ensure all guest rooms, public areas, and service areas are in excellent working order
• Carry out maintenance requirements and follow up as scheduled by the Hotels’ Property Management System (PMS).
• Assist in keeping up-to-date records on the repair and maintenance of plant and equipment
• Conduct regular inspections of hotel equipment, machinery, and systems to identify potential issues
• Ensure all tasks are performed with urgency and in the safest manner possible
• Assist in managing 3rd party contractors
• Communicate effectively with hotel staff to address urgent maintenance concerns

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills
• Comfortable in a physical role, have a get-up-and-go attitude with a strong eye for detail
• Self-motivated, punctual and reliable, with a proactive approach to work
• Basic knowledge of general repair work or DIY
• Competent in the use of basic computer programs
• Workplace Health and Safety knowledge
• Ability to accommodate flexibility with shifts, including weekends
• Previous handyman/maintenance experience in a hotel or guest service environment preferred
