Job Summary
The Haptic Engineering team develops innovative haptic solutions that are central to Apple’s products, including the iPhone and Apple Watch. Our key goal is to enable the world’s best user-experience and explore the possibilities using haptics. We are seeking a control engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of control systems and algorithms for next-generation haptic actuators and experiences. As a Haptics Control Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing cutting-edge control systems that bring Apple's haptic technology to life, working at the intersection of control theory, signal processing, and electro-mechanical systems to create precise, responsive tactile feedback.
Must Have
- Control system design, analysis, and integration for haptic actuators
- Characterize and validate haptic module and system performance
- Perform system modeling and simulation
- Prototype bring-up, debug and characterization
- Define factory test requirements for haptic system
- Author engineering requirements and specifications
- Communicating cross-functionally and throughout management structure (written, verbal, and presentation)
- Perform failure mode analysis and problem solving
- International travel to support the product development
- IP generation
- BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
- Strong background in control engineering, dynamics, and signal processing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Team Oriented: must be able to thrive in collaborative cross-functional environments
- Hands-on experience in control system design, analysis, implementation, and validation
- Familiarity with modeling electro-mechanical system
- Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink and C/C++
Good to Have
- Experience with electromagnetic or piezoelectric actuators
- Experience with high volume mass production
- Knowledge of micro controller or embedded hardware/software
- Knowledge of state-space techniques
- Knowledge of nonlinear control technique
- Experience with AI/ML-based control system design
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics or equivalent with a specialization in control engineering

As a Haptics Control Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing cutting-edge control systems that bring Apple's haptic technology to life. You will work at the intersection of control theory, signal processing, and electro-mechanical systems to create the precise, responsive tactile feedback that millions of users experience every day on Apple devices. In this role, you will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of haptic control system development—from initial concept and modeling through prototype implementation, validation, and factory production support.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
