Head of Platform Engineering

JOB OVERVIEW

Plan A Technologies is looking for a skilled Head of Platform Engineering to lead the Platform Development organization to deliver an exceptional player experience that consistently exceeds industry standards. You will be responsible for overseeing multiple critical areas, including both core infrastructure and feature development streams, ensuring strategic alignment, operational excellence, and technical innovation across all teams. This is a fast-paced job with room for significant career growth. 

Please note: you must have at least 7+ years in game development (ideally iGaming), 5+ years leading technical teams, including managers to be considered for this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

• Spearhead the Platform Development function across multiple teams including the Core RGS, Customer Integrations and Engagement Tools

• Lead and Mentor Engineering Leads, supporting them in delivering a top class gaming platform

• Responsible for the alignment of the platform development strategy and practices with wider company goals and objectives

• Recruit, Retain and Grow talent in the team across multiple functions (backend development, frontend development, QA, release management)

• Own the Capacity Planning for the teams working with Project managers to establish delivery timelines

• Understand, monitor and optimize all cost aspects of the platform

• Ensure proper resourcing on all production services owned by the platform teams

• Own the technical backlog for the platform, ensuring long term sustainability and managing technical debt

• Keep a constant focus on availability, scalability, resilience, fault tolerance and observability across the board

• Influence & optimize the product development process across departments (Engineering, Product, Compliance, Delivery)

• Responsible for the development lifecycle (including security controls) and methodology followed by the teams 

• Managing manage code quality, drive innovation, process optimizations, development/delivery automation and tooling

• Ensure technical decisions support business objectives and growth needs

• Take a central role in support and incident management initiatives related to the platform

• Ability to make timely and effective decisions, especially under pressure. This involves analyzing complex technical challenges, weighing trade-offs, and committing to a course of action.

• Drive cross team communications and training to manage potential risks in the team’s growth, thus avoiding silos

• Work with multiple stakeholders to address risks or roadblocks that could impact delivery.

• Identify and manage organizational or technical dependencies thus avoiding any blocking situations for the teams

• Implement a career development framework to ensure growth opportunities across all functions in the team

EXPERIENCE

• 7+ years of experience in software development within a fast paced online environment using Java/C# and ideally JavaScript/Typescript

• 5+ years of demonstrated experience leading cross-functional software development teams, delivering customer facing features

• Experience in managing platforms with high volume, low latency, high availability requirements

• Solid understanding of OOP, Design Patterns, Relational (ideally MySQL) & NoSQL DBMS, Message Queues and Testing methodologies

• Multiple experiences in building, operating and monitoring applications on Cloud Infrastructure (GCP, AWS, Azure) and Kubernetes

• Strong familiarity with modern CI/CD tools (Gitlab CI, Jenkins), Observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, New Relic) 

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve development problems, ensuring seamless delivery of products.

• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a remote team, open to giving and receiving feedback.

• Strong problem-solving skills, result oriented approach and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and inspire teams

• Previous Experience in the online gaming industry is a major advantage

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
