Senior QA Automation Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW

Plan A Technologies is looking for an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer to help us with the quality strategy and build a robust, scalable, and high-performing product. This role involves taking ownership of the automation framework from the ground up, embedding quality throughout the development lifecycle in an agile, fast-paced environment. The product is a critical business solution built with modern technologies, and initial steps have been taken with AI-assisted tools like Cursor and Copilot. This position offers the opportunity to define testing practices, drive continuous improvement, and ensure product excellence beyond traditional testing responsibilities. Please note: you must have at least 5+ years of experience as a QA Automation Engineer to be considered for this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

• Strategize and Automate: You will design, develop, and maintain comprehensive automated test suites for our Angular front end and .NET Core microservices. Your primary goal will be to shift our testing from manual, time-consuming tasks to an efficient, automated pipeline.

• Hands-On Testing: While automation is key, you'll also perform various types of testing, including manual, API, and integration testing, to find bugs and ensure the system behaves as expected.

• Integrate and Execute: You will build and integrate our automated tests into our Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing with every code check-in.

• Specialized Testing: You will have the opportunity to lead and perform more specialized testing, including load testing to ensure performance under stress, regression testing to prevent old bugs from reappearing, and security testing to protect our application.

• Collaborate: You'll work closely with our developers, business analysts, and product owner to understand requirements, define test cases, and ensure we're delivering a top-tier product.

EXPERIENCE

• 5+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance, with a strong focus on automation.

• Proven experience designing and implementing end-to-end automated testing frameworks.

• Familiarity with testing tools and frameworks for both front-end (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium) and back-end (e.g., xUnit, NUnit, Postman) testing.

• Experience with API testing using tools like Postman or a code-based framework.

• Solid understanding of various database technologies for data validation and testing, including SQL Server and other databases commonly used in a microservices environment, such as Cosmos DB or other NoSQL solutions.

• Tooling: Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps for managing work items, test plans, and CI/CD pipelines is a significant plus.

• Mindset: A curious and investigative mindset, with a strong attention to detail and a passion for finding and solving problems. You should be proactive, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced agile environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with performance testing tools like JMeter or LoadRunner.

• Knowledge of security testing principles and tools.

• Familiarity with the challenges of testing applications built with a microservices architecture on Azure.

• Experience with C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Angular.
