Intern - R&D Development (Studying Bachelor's or Master's Degree)

Western Digital is seeking an R&D Development Intern to contribute to global innovation in data storage. This role involves planning, executing, and analyzing engineering experiments for high-precision dimensional measurement tools, supporting new metrology methods, and working in a production line environment. The intern will proactively identify risks, maintain project schedules, and prepare reports to support project decisions, contributing to a brighter, smarter future powered by data.

Must Have

• Plan, prepare, and execute engineering experiments related to prototype of high-precision dimensional measurement tools
• Collect, analyze, and interpret measurement data to evaluate tool performance and identify improvement opportunities
• Support the development and validation of new metrology methods and measurement processes
• Work primarily in the production line environment
• Identify project risks and issues proactively and provide timely and effective solutions
• Maintain project schedules, track milestones, and ensure timely completion of tasks
• Gather and summarize data to support project decisions and prepare reports and presentations
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optic, Optical Metrology, Physics, instrumentation, Industrial physics, or related field
• Internship period must be at least 4-6 months

Good to Have

• Knowledge in optical metrology
• Self-confident and able to work independently

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, prepare, and execute engineering experiments related to prototype of high-precision dimensional measurement tools
• Collect, analyze, and interpret measurement data to evaluate tool performance and identify improvement opportunities
• Support the development and validation of new metrology methods and measurement processes
• Work primarily in the production line environment
• Identify project risks and issues proactively. Provide timely and effective solutions to minimize disruptions and ensure project continuity
• Maintain project schedules, track milestones, and ensure timely completion of tasks. Communicate deadlines clearly and follow up on deliverables to keep projects on track
• Gather and summarize data to support project decisions. Prepare clear, concise reports and presentations to communicate project performance and insights to stakeholders

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optic, Optical Metrology, Physics, instrumentation, Industrial physics, or related field
• The internship period must be at least 4-6 months

PREFERRED:

• Knowledge in optical metrology
• Self-confident and able to work independently

SKILLS:

• Advanced skills in Python programming and image processing
• Skills in Data analytics
• Skill in make animations and presentations
• Demonstrate a good level of English proficiency (Written and listening)
