Job Description

At the heart of Saint Quentin en Yvelines, the Elancourt site is one of Thales' most important technological centers of excellence. The Servomechanisms & Control Service (SSA) develops functionalities related to servocontrols for all Elancourt product lines. As part of the development of a cooling mechanism for an infrared camera, you will be responsible for the modeling, simulation, and implementation of the control system, including brushless motor speed and temperature loops.
Good To Have:
  • Ideally, basic knowledge in thermodynamics.
Must Have:
  • Model and simulate the integration of a current control loop into the motor control strategy using Simulink and Simscape.
  • Test the correction structure on hardware (compare performance with/without current loop).
  • Conduct a state-of-the-art review on sensorless speed control of brushless motors.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate sensorless speed control for the motor (in simulation and possibly on a prototype).
  • Study and model the temperature regulation loop.
  • Solid knowledge in physical modeling & electric motor control.
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Simulink, and Simscape.
  • Skills in automation (system control/command/servocontrol) and electronics and microcontrollers.
Perks:
  • Technological expertise
  • Attention to employee work-life balance
  • Inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)
  • All internships are formalized by an agreement and subject to remuneration determined by your level of study.

Thales is a global leader in high technologies specializing in three business sectors: Defense & Security, Aerospace & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly 4 billion euros per year in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.

Our commitments, your benefits

  • Our technological expertise
  • Our attention to employee work-life balance
  • An inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)

Your daily life

At the heart of Saint Quentin en Yvelines, the Elancourt site is one of Thales' most important technological centers of excellence. The diversity and technicality of the systems and equipment mobilize expertise in more than 80 professions in defense, high-tech security, and digital services solutions.

Join the Technical Competence Center and more precisely the Servomechanisms & Control Service (SSA). This service brings together the skills and resources necessary for the development of functionalities related to servocontrols for all Elancourt product lines: servocontrolled mechanisms, stabilization and kinematics of the line of sight, line of sight attitude calculations, and georeferencing. In this capacity, SSA intervenes throughout the product life cycle: from architecture and sizing, through development and integration, to expertise in production and operational maintenance.

As part of the development of a cooling mechanism for an infrared camera, you will be responsible for the modeling, simulation, and implementation (in simulation and possibly on a prototype) of the control system: brushless motor speed loop actuating the mechanism, temperature loop.

By joining us, you will be entrusted with the following missions:

  • Take charge of current modeling and control strategies
  • Model and simulate, using Simulink and Simscape, the integration of a current control loop into the motor control strategy
  • Test the correction structure on hardware (compare performance with/without current loop, etc.)
  • Conduct a state-of-the-art review on sensorless speed control of brushless motors
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate (in simulation and possibly on a prototype) sensorless speed control for the motor
  • Study and model the temperature regulation loop

Your profile

Are you an engineering student specializing in mechatronics / automation / electronics, looking for a 4 to 6-month internship?

Do you have solid knowledge in physical modeling & electric motor control?

Are you proficient in Matlab, Simulink, and Simscape?

Do you have skills in automation (system control/command/servocontrol) and electronics and microcontrollers?

Ideally, do you have basic knowledge in thermodynamics?

Are you recognized for your autonomy, your ability to synthesize, your rigor, as well as your critical and analytical mind?

A word from the team

During this internship, you will develop your skills in physical modeling and control. You will join a young, welcoming, and cheerful team that will support your success!

All our internships are formalized by an agreement and subject to remuneration, the amount of which is determined by your level of study.

Thales, a Handi-Engaged company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset. Apply and join us!
