Job Summary
The 3D Animator creates compelling character performances for storytelling, working under the Animation Director. This role involves animating characters, props, and cameras, applying strong posing and timing, and collaborating with leads to achieve visual narratives. The animator will translate storyboards, resolve animation issues, and ensure timely delivery of shots while maintaining artistic vision and production standards.
Must Have
- A 3D ANIMATION FOCUSED Demo Reel is a requirement for all our artist positions.
- Must have a Spanish work permit.
- Animate characters, props, and cameras in line with story, performance, and technical briefs.
- Apply strong posing, timing, and spacing to develop believable performances.
- Collaborate with Leads, Supervisors, and Directors to achieve the intended visual narrative.
- Translate storyboards and animatics into animated sequences with an understanding of camera composition and storytelling.
- Work within the constraints of character rigs while identifying and resolving animation-related issues.
- Block, refine, and polish animation through iterations based on feedback.
- Follow the production schedule and ensure timely delivery of assigned shots.
- Communicate clearly with production and other departments to troubleshoot workflow or asset issues.
- Stay aligned with the artistic vision and animation standards set by the Animation Director and Supervisors.
- Demonstrated proficiency in character performance, including facial animation and body mechanics.
- Solid understanding of Maya and animation workflows in a studio production environment.
- Strong grasp of animation principles and storytelling techniques.
Good to Have
- Familiarity with different animation styles and the ability to adapt as needed (e.g., stylised, realistic, graphic).
- Experience with quadruped animation and/or 2.5D workflows.
- Effectively receives and applies creative feedback from Leads and Supervisors.
- Demonstrates strong communication and collaboration skills across departments.
- Maintains high standards of animation quality within production timelines.
- Shows adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Works both independently and collaboratively, supporting the wider animation team.
- Consistently meets deadlines and maintains production efficiency.

Job Description
Flying Bark Productions is a dynamic and innovative animation studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of character animation and storytelling. We are working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Ghostbusters animated series and Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.
A 3D ANIMATION FOCUSED Demo Reel is a requirement for all our artist positions, without it we will not be able to move forward with your application. We prefer to get links to YouTube or Vimeo, as we are not able to access links via Google Drive.
This position is onsite in Madrid, and you must have a Spanish work permit.
The 3D Animator is responsible for creating compelling character performances that serve the story and deepen audience engagement. Working under the guidance of the Animation Director and other senior creative leads, the animator will bring characters to life while adhering to the visual style, pacing, and emotional tone of the production. This role requires collaboration across departments and close alignment with the overall animation schedule and production goals.
