Junior Programmer (Co-Op)
Halifax, Nova Scotia (Hybrid)
Hi, I'm Cade and I am a Programmer at Gamemode One. I have been with the company for 7 years and look after our Unity engineering team and studio programming practices. I'm looking for a co-op student to join our team and assist with early development on our first independent game, including fixing bugs, implementing features and collaborating with designers.
A Bit About Us
Gamemode One was founded 6 years ago to build innovative games and bring major IPs to the Minecraft Marketplace. We are scaling to develop a bold new independent game while continuing to prioritize staff well-being and an excellent working environment.
We care deeply about our vibrant company culture, which enables us all to do our best work. We are an established, fully self-funded studio with roots in Minecraft and ambitions to deliver experimental games for PC and console platforms. We are building a small, talent-dense team to develop an innovative exploration-adventure title.
Your Day-to-Day
As a Game Development Co-op at Gamemode One, you'll dive into the exciting pre-production phase of our first independent game. Your days will include:
- Prototyping and Problem-Solving: Brainstorming creative solutions to technical challenges and rapidly testing new ideas
- Feature Development: Writing clean, readable C# code in Unity to implement new gameplay mechanics and systems
- Bug Fixing and Polish: Debugging issues and tuning parameters based on playtesting feedback and feel
- Learning and Growing: Expanding your skills in non-MonoBehavior programming, Visual Studio debugging, and source control best practices
- Collaborating: Working closely with our tight-knit team of developers, designers, and artists to bring experimental game concepts to life
You won't just be completing tasks—you'll be actively contributing ideas, learning from experienced developers, and making a real impact on an innovative project.
What You'll Bring
- Knowledge of Unity and C# (student or personal project experience welcome!)
- Familiarity with source control (Git)
- Curiosity, courage, and eagerness to learn
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Passion for games and experimental design
