Larian Studios, known for award-winning role-playing games like Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2, seeks a Lead Character Artist. This role involves working with the Art Director, Concept Artists, and Animation teams to ensure characters align with artistic and gameplay needs. Responsibilities include leading and mentoring a team, providing feedback, creating high-quality 3D models, organizing meetings, refining art pipelines, and researching new technologies. The ideal candidate will balance creative vision with technical limitations and uphold high quality standards for the games that the studio is known for. This full-time, on-site role requires presence in the office for collaboration and creativity.
Must have:
  • 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong artistic fundamentals (anatomy, form, texture, material rendering).
  • Previous leadership experience on shipped game titles.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance creative vision with technical limitations.
Good to have:
  • Previous leadership experience on AAA titles with realistic graphics
  • Knowledge of hair and fur grooming
  • Previous experience working with facial blendshapes
  • Public speaking or mentoring experience

Job Details

With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios has proven that we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality role-playing games. As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Lead Character Artist to join the team and help us in crafting the high calibre games our fans have come to expect.


Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Art Director, Concept Artists, and Animation teams to ensure characters fit the artistic and gameplay needs.
  • Lead and mentor a big team of character artists, helping them improve their skills and workflows.
  • Provide paint-overs, feedback, and detailed critiques to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Create high-quality 3D character models, from high-poly sculpts to in-game assets.
  • Organize team meetings, share best practices, and create learning opportunities.
  • Define and refine character art pipelines to maximize efficiency and maintain industry-leading quality.
  • Research and implement new tools, workflows, and technologies


Requirements
  • 3+ years in a similar leadership role
  • Strong artistic fundamentals (anatomy, form, texture, material rendering).
