Job Description

The Lead Quality Automation Engineer at Morningstar is responsible for thoroughly understanding business requirements, data flow, backend workflows, and system outputs to build and execute detailed test plans and automated test suites. This role involves integrating tests into CI/CD, monitoring production, troubleshooting, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure software quality. The engineer also mentors junior QAs, tracks metrics, and fosters a quality culture, requiring adaptability in a fast-paced environment. Remote work requests are considered, and the company operates in a hybrid work environment.
Must have:
  • Thoroughly understand requirements of the Indexes business
  • Understand meaning and location of data throughout the system
  • Understand backend workflows of the platform
  • Understand expected outputs of the system
  • Understand correct usage of all user interfaces
  • Build detailed test plans and test cases
  • Execute manual tests
  • Develop and implement automated test suites
  • Integrate tests into the CI/CD pipeline
  • Monitor production environments
  • Troubleshoot issues and conduct root cause analysis
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software quality
  • Mentor junior QA engineers
  • Track QA metrics
  • Ensure compliance with company standards
  • Foster a culture of quality within the team
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 7 years of relevant experience in software quality assurance
  • 5 years of experience with Java and SQL
  • 5 years of experience testing restful APIs, webapp UIs, and ETL testing
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with Selenium, RestAssured, JUnit, TestNG, TestRail, and Postman
  • Experience implementing Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) tests using Cucumber framework
  • Experience implementing performance tests using JMeter
  • Experience with translation of requirements into a written test plan and identifying edge cases
  • Experience building management-facing quality reports
  • Experience with market index calculation and corporate actions

Job Details

Responsibilities:

The Lead Quality Automation Engineer is responsible for thoroughly understanding the requirements of the Indexes business, the meaning and location of data used throughout the system, the backend workflows of the platform, the expected outputs of the system, and the correct usage of all user interfaces. The QA will use this knowledge to build detailed test plans and test cases, execute manual tests, develop and implement automated test suites, and integrate tests into the CI/CD pipeline. The engineer also helps monitor production environments, troubleshoot issues, conduct root cause analysis, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software quality. Production support requires occasional evening work. Additionally, they mentor junior QA engineers, track QA metrics, and ensure compliance with company standards, all while fostering a culture of quality within the team. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment is a must. *Remote work requests will be considered consistent with company’s remote work policy.

Requirements:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or foreign equivalent and 7 years of relevant experience in software quality assurance. This position also requires: 5 years of experience with Java and SQL; 5 years of experience testing restful APIs, webapp UIs, and ETL testing; experience with Python; experience with testing frameworks and tools including Selenium, RestAssured, JUnit, TestNG, TestRail, and Postman; experience implementing Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) tests using Cucumber framework; experience implementing performance tests using JMeter; experience with translation of requirements into a written test plan and identifying edge cases; experience building management-facing quality reports; experience with market index calculation and corporate actions.

Must possess unrestricted right to work in the U.S. in this position
