Lead Software Engineer, Backend (Payments)

Join Grab's PayCore Settlement team as a Lead Software Engineer, Backend, focusing on building a reliable platform for challenging problems in the Payments domain. This cross-functional team innovates to enable accurate reconciliation with financial partners, driving economic empowerment across Southeast Asia. Your role involves developing complex backend systems for settlement services, reporting to the Engineering Manager II, Backend, in an onsite position in Bangalore.

Must Have

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable software applications.
• Write clean, efficient, maintainable code for FinTech domain, especially Payments.
• Collaborate with teams to define, design, and ship new features.
• Participate in code reviews to improve quality and share knowledge.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, providing resolutions.
• Lead architectural decisions, technical direction, implementations, and maintenance of projects.
• Participate in On-Call rotations to ensure service reliability and availability.
• Provide support to SRE or DevOps team for smooth deployment and operation.
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering continuous improvement.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
• Strong Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
• 8+ years of relevant software development experience, proficient in Golang (preferred) and Java.
• Experience with building web systems around DBMS, Caches, NoSQL, and App servers.
• Hands-on experience solving concurrency and consistency problems in large-scale systems.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
• Experience with clean architecture principles.
• Capability to write extensible code for complex projects following SOLID principles.
• Experience with software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum).
• Commitment to maintaining a set of software engineering skills.
• Proficiency in writing clean, efficient, maintainable code and documentations.
• Hands-on experience in the Fintech domain, especially Payments.
• Hands-on experience processing huge volumes of financial data ensuring consistency, accuracy, and efficiency.

Get to Know the Role

Your primary responsibilities would be to develop the complex backend systems to power our Settlement services to settle millions of merchants.

You will be reporting to the Engineering Manager II, Backend. This is an onsite role in Bangalore.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality and scalable software applications
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code to solve challenging problems in the FinTech domain, especially in Payments
• Collaborate with teams to define, design, and ship new features complying with high software standards
• Participate in code reviews to improve code quality and share knowledge to upskill other team members
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, providing resolutions and ensuring long-term fix
• Lead to the architectural decisions, technical direction, implementations, and maintenance of the projects
• Participate in On-Call rotations to ensure the reliability and availability of our services and achieve operational excellence
• Provide support to the SRE or DevOps team to ensure smooth deployment and operation of our systems
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Strong Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures, and capability to recognize when to use them
• 8+ years of relevant experience in software development, with proficiency in one of the major programming languages, e.g., Golang (preferred) and Java
• Experience with building web systems around DBMS, Caches, NoSQL and App servers
• Hands-on experience solving concurrency and consistency problems in large-scale systems
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
• Experience with clean architecture principles
• Capability to write extensible code for complex projects and pick the right abstractions that follow SOLID principles
• Experience with software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
• Commitment to maintaining a set of software engineering skills
• Proficiency in writing clean, efficient, maintainable code and documentations
• Hands-on experience in the Fintech domain, especially Payments
• Hands-on experience processing huge volumes of financial data and ensuring consistency, accuracy and efficiency
