Job Summary
Next Level Games is seeking a Senior Lighting Artist to join their team in Vancouver, BC. This temporary role involves establishing lighting benchmarks, lighting environments and cinematics, developing lighting systems, and collaborating with other artists to bring Nintendo's games to life. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of lighting experience, strong technical skills, and proficiency with Unreal Engine or similar, contributing to award-winning game development.
Must Have
- Help establish lighting benchmarks for the current project
- Be responsible for lighting both environments and cinematics
- Help develop and improve our lighting systems and processes
- Work closely with Environment Artists to ensure consistency and quality
- Use light in an interesting and dynamic way to bring the world to life and provide gameplay clarity
- Provide guidance and mentorship for other Lighting Artists
- 3+ years' work experience in lighting
- At least one shipped game/project in the role of Lighting Artist
- Strong technical capabilities and understanding
- Proficiency with Unreal or similar engine
- Proficiency with runtime dynamic lighting
Good to Have
- A strong understanding of lighting and shadowing techniques in games (radiosity, ray-tracing, HDRI, dynamic lighting, lightmaps, vertex lighting)
- A strong understanding of postprocessing and tone mapping
- Technical understanding of composition, colour, space, structure and form
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A strong desire to help solve problems and collaborate with the team
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- An ability to perform well under pressure
- Being able to pivot priorities gracefully

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
We are looking for a Senior Lighting Artist to join our team. You will work alongside our other Lighting Artists as well as our Environment Artists, Prop Artists, Tech Artists, and Art Director. You will play a key role in bringing the much-loved games that Nintendo creates to life!
- Help establish lighting benchmarks for the current project and help share knowledge amongst the team
- Be responsible for lighting both environments and cinematics

The hiring range for this position is $74,000 - $93,000 CAD annually and is subject to change. The final base salary compensation will be based on factors such as skills, education, and experience.
