Job Summary

As a Senior Advanced Lighting Artist at Certain Affinity, you will contribute to custom lighting pipelines for major shooters and proprietary technology. This role involves close collaboration with project art directors to realize their vision and working with artists across disciplines to create in-game and cinematic content. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating next-level imagery with a strong background in color theory, lighting, atmospherics, and post-processing.

Must Have

  • Author environmental lighting that unifies level design and art direction
  • Assist with look development
  • Propose lighting and pipeline improvements
  • Collaborate with concept, environment, materials, and VFX artists
  • Self-direct lighting intentions based on high-level art direction
  • Implement scripted lighting events through blueprints
  • Work with Global lighting settings (post process effects, exposure, color grading)
  • Implement lighting rigs for reliable performance on multiple platforms
  • Unreal 4 or 5 experience in a game development environment
  • 5+ years’ experience in game development
  • Experience with blueprint scripting or similar
  • Comprehensive knowledge of photography or film-based techniques
  • Solid understanding of exposure and physically based lighting in game development
  • Familiarity with lumen or similar real time rendering pipelines for global illumination

Good to Have

  • Experience with Davinci Resolve
  • Experience with real-world cameras and lighting
  • C++/Python/C# skillset
  • Experience with shader creation in Unreal

Senior Advanced Lighting Artist

As a Senior Advanced Lighting Artist at Certain Affinity, you will get the chance to see some of the custom lighting pipelines behind the world’s biggest shooters and contribute to our proprietary technology. This role will require you to work closely with project art directors to ensure their project vision. You will also be responsible for working with artists from multiple disciplines to create in-game and cinematic content. We want to talk with you if you are passionate about creating next-level imagery and have a strong background in color theory, lighting, atmospherics, and post-processing.

Responsibilities

  • Author environmental lighting that unifies the needs of level design and art direction
  • Assist with look development
  • Propose lighting and pipeline improvements
  • Collaborate with concept, environment, materials, and VFX artists
  • Self-direct lighting intentions that can build upon high level art direction needs
  • Implement scripted lighting events through blueprints to support gameplay and narrative moments
  • Work with Global lighting settings such as post process effects, exposure and color grading that are able to recreate the intended look guided by art direction
  • Implement lighting rigs and determine best practices that will provide reliable performance on multiple platforms

Requirements

  • Unreal 4 or 5 experience in a game development environment
  • 5+ years’ experience in game development
  • Experience with blueprint scripting or similar
  • Comprehensive knowledge of photography or film-based techniques
  • Solid understanding of exposure and physically based lighting in the context of game development
  • Familiarity with lumen or similar real time rendering pipelines for global illumination
  • Plays games!
