Job Description

VOID Interactive is seeking a Lighting Artist to craft immersive lighting environments for their best-selling FPS game, Ready or Not. The role involves enhancing visual atmosphere, guiding player focus through lighting, and collaborating with art and design teams. The artist will ensure consistency, experiment with effects, and optimize lighting performance to create cinematic brilliance and enhance gameplay and storytelling.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with FPS games.
  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Must Have:
  • Craft immersive lighting environments using tools and techniques.
  • Enhance visual atmosphere and ambiance by manipulating light sources, shadows, and colour.
  • Evoke emotions and guide player focus through lighting techniques.
  • Collaborate with art and design teams to align lighting with artistic vision.
  • Ensure consistency and quality across lighting in different game levels or scenes.
  • Experiment with lighting effects, tools, and technologies.
  • Optimise lighting performance for various hardware configurations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in lighting art roles for gaming projects.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing proficiency in lighting techniques, composition, and mood-setting.
  • Proficient in Unreal Engine, including extensive experience using swarm baked lighting setups.
  • Expert level of understanding when it comes to performance optimisations from a lighting perspective.

As our Lighting Artist, you'll be the creative force behind the visual atmosphere of our games. Your task? To craft immersive lighting environments that make our players feel like they've stepped into another world. With your talent, every scene will shine with cinematic brilliance, enhancing gameplay and storytelling alike.

In this role, you'll be in charge of:

  • Crafting immersive lighting environments using tools and techniques to create realistic or stylised lighting setups that suit the game's narrative and mood.
  • Enhancing visual atmosphere and ambiance by manipulating light sources, shadows, and colour to evoke specific emotions or convey particular atmospheres within the world.
  • Evoking emotions and guiding player focus through lighting techniques by using lighting to direct attention to important elements or areas of interest, as well as to elicit emotional responses such as tension, awe, or serenity.
  • Collaborating with art and design teams by working closely with fellow artists, level designers, and the art director to ensure that the lighting aligns with the overall artistic vision and objectives of the project.
  • Ensuring consistency and quality across lighting in different game levels or scenes by maintaining a cohesive lighting style and level of detail throughout the game while adapting to the unique requirements of each environment.
  • Experimenting with lighting effects by exploring new techniques, tools, and technologies to create visually striking and innovative gameplay experiences.
  • Optimisation of lighting performance for various hardware configurations.

Here’s what you'll be bringing to the team:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in lighting art roles for gaming projects (experience with FPS games preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to create visually stunning lighting environments in games.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing proficiency in lighting techniques, composition, and mood-setting.
  • Proficient in Unreal Engine, including extensive experience using swarm baked lighting setups.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with art, design, and engineering teams.
  • Passion for gaming with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of how lighting contributes to gameplay immersion.
  • Familiarity with current trends in lighting technology and a willingness to experiment with new techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • An expert level of understanding when it comes to performance optimisations from a lighting perspective.

Salary is determined by the location of the applicant, market rates, and relevant experience.
