Job Description

Thales's center of excellence for aviation and optronic equipment support, located in Chatellerault, is seeking an Optical Gyrometry Engineer. This role involves participating in the study and development of high-tech inertial navigation sensors. The engineer will support production teams in root cause analysis and expertise, lead in-depth studies on sensor error understanding and repeatability, and contribute to the development of Inertial Measurement Units. The position also involves participation in R&T projects for future gyrometry studies.
Must have:

As a center of excellence for aviation and optronic equipment support, Thales demonstrates its commitment to meeting legitimate requirements for the availability of airborne equipment, in addition to its historical activity of producing inertial units and gyrolasers. The team is experienced and multidisciplinary in the field of sensors, whose watchword is the technical mastery of our products. You will participate in the studies and developments of equipment that will be the spearheads of our product offerings in the field of inertial navigation and its high-tech sensors.

The position is open in Châtellerault (86), close to the laser gyrometer production teams. It also involves interactions with our THALES Research & Technology (TRT) research center located in the Paris region.

Integrated into our GyroLaser expertise development projects, your missions will focus on the maturity and technical mastery of SENSOR products in the field of optical gyrometry:

  • Through your knowledge of the laser gyrometer, associated industrial means, and physical phenomena involved, you support the production teams in root cause analyses and expertise. You are, in this respect, considered the focal point of development on these subjects. You lead and master experimental plans.
  • You lead in project teams the in-depth studies for understanding sensor errors and their repeatability. These studies are focused on mastering and improving the process to converge towards our competitiveness targets, a strong challenge for your activities.
  • As a transversal gyrolaser sensor specialist, you participate in the developments of our Inertial Measurement Units.
  • You will also participate in the R&T project dedicated to studies of tomorrow's gyrometry.

Your profile:

You have a BAC+5 (engineering school or equivalent) in photonic physics with significant professional experience in industry and/or a CIFRE doctoral thesis in the industrial field:

  • Your training in physics, photonics, laser physics allows you to assimilate the concepts of the sensor and exercise a critical mind on limiting physical phenomena;
  • You have skills in mechanical drawing reading and basic chemistry;
  • An ability to cooperate in an international context (spoken and written English)
  • Ideally, you have at least 3 years of experience in the aeronautics field
