Craft: Technology & Development

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Product Director to help shape the future of our proprietary game engine, Fiction Factory, by leading the product vision and strategy for the Engine Developer Platform. This platform empowers internal game teams with the foundational technology they need to build innovative, high-quality games efficiently and at scale.

The Fiction Factory engine is made up of a highly optimised runtime capable of high-quality 2D and 3D mobile gaming across a huge range of mobile devices, a content creation toolchain, and a content and build pipeline to enable King’s game teams to iterate quickly.

As a Product Director in the Game Production organization, you will have an active role in defining our product strategy and building strong partnerships with our internal stakeholders and customers. You will also be responsible for understanding user problems and needs based on data and collaboration with our Users and Engineering teams.

This role belongs to part of the Kingdom we call Shared Tech. The teams within Shared Tech work across all the technology that we use to power our live games, including data infrastructure, machine learning, payments infrastructure and the game engine itself. The vision within Shared Tech is "We are the stage where King games love to perform”.

Your role within the Kingdom

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with our major games and one of the largest game user bases in the world. You will be responsible for end-to-end user experience, bringing impact to the business and end users, building technologies and experiences, as well as improving existing ones.

Your responsibilities will include;

  • Responsible for the product strategy and roadmap for the Game Developer Engine and SDK, enabling internal teams to build high-quality, performant, and scalable games
  • Define and evolve the vision for the engine’s developer-facing APIs, systems, and workflows to improve developer productivity and unlock new game capabilities
  • Effectively balance long-term technical innovation, user-facing improvements, strategic initiatives, and technical debt to deliver short- and long-term impact
  • Build strong relationships with internal engineering, game teams, and technical stakeholders to deeply understand their workflows, pain points, and opportunities
  • Identify important opportunities in collaboration with Games, Product Managers, Engineering, and Technical Directors
  • Drive product vision, strategies, and roadmaps in the context of broader organisational strategies and goals
  • Incorporate data, research, and market analysis to inform product strategies and roadmaps
  • Lead product discovery and development activities in partnership with Engineering

Skills to Create Thrills

  • Proven experience as a Product Manager leading cross-functional teams in complex, technical domains
  • You are an expert in prioritising problems
  • Experience working in the game industry, game engine teams, or with developer-facing tooling is a strong plus
  • Demonstrated success in building and shipping software products or features in large-scale environments, ideally involving platforms, SDKs, or APIs
  • Due to the technical nature of the products, a technical background is preferable but not essential. Experience managing a product targeted at game developers is a plus.
  • An outcome, impact, and continuous discovery mentality
  • Strong communication skills: you can articulate both the vision and the details of product performance to teams and internal partners in both written and verbal form
  • Experience creating buy-in, strong collaboration, and relationship building with engineers and stakeholders
  • Experience integrating customer feedback into product requirements, driving prioritisation and pre/post-launch execution and evaluation
