Job Summary

The Project Controls Analyst (PCA) supports Project Managers in the natural gas distribution/utility sector, ensuring projects are completed within scope, on schedule, and on budget. Responsibilities include managing project data such as costs, schedules, progress, and communication, as well as developing and maintaining budgets, tracking invoices, and identifying potential issues. The role requires a solid understanding of the natural gas industry and strong analytical and communication skills.

Must Have

  • Work with PMs to anticipate project demands and resolve issues.
  • Assist PMs with developing clear project scope and analyzing scope data.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and actual costs; prepare cost reports.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and actual progress; prepare schedule reports.
  • Review and track invoices and payments for Magnolia River and subcontractors.
  • Identify warning signs of problems and elevate them.
  • Support Scope, Cost, Schedule, Reporting, and Change Management.
  • Maintain professional rapport with clients and stakeholders.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of related project controls experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and project management software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours for project assignments and meetings.

Good to Have

  • Experience in Project Management (PMP certification is preferred).
  • Experience with project management software is preferred.
  • Natural gas or utility experience is preferred.

Job Description

The Project Controls Analyst (PCA) is responsible for project data (costs, schedule, progress, communication, billing, closeout, etc.) for assigned natural gas distribution/utility projects. The PCA is required to have a solid understanding of the natural gas industry. The PCA supports the Project Manager(s) (PM) to complete projects within scope, on schedule, and on budget.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with PMs to anticipate project demands and resolve issues that arise during the project life cycle.
  • Assist PMs with the development of a clear project scope and analyze scope data.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and actual costs; prepare cost reports; and analyze cost data.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and actual progress based on information provided by PMs or team members; prepare schedule reports; and analyze schedule data.
  • Review and track invoices and payments for Magnolia River and subcontractors.
  • Constantly seek to find signs of problems before they occur. Identify warning signs and elevate them to the appropriate level.
  • Develop an understanding of the Project Management Fundamentals and support in:

  • Develop and maintain a professional rapport with client, project team members, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Participate in process improvement team efforts to achieve divisional/company objectives.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of computer applications and functions including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and project management software (Microsoft Project, Unanet, etc.).

  • Ability to prepare and/or maintain project plans, reports, documents, and procedures to address specific project needs.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Ability to adjust to a fast‐paced environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least two (2) years of related project controls experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Project Management (PMP certification is preferred).
  • Experience with project management software is preferred.
  • Natural gas or utility experience is preferred.
