Job Description

The Remote Game Camera Operator works closely with the Show Director, Technical Operations, Video Engineers, Production Managers, other Camera Operators and Camera Utilities. This position is responsible for assisting in the set up and strike of all cameras and camera equipment required for the execution of the remote production as well as assisting with the preplanning process surrounding equipment needs for the remote productions. The operator takes direction from the Show Director in terms of camera movement, lens zooms, lens focus and achieving the desired picture framing. This position may also be responsible for operating handheld cameras.

Must Have:
  • Operate as a lead camera on a remote job site.
  • Work with Tech Manager and Show Director for equipment placement and local operator positioning.
  • Serve as lead point person for information distribution and reacting to schedule changes.
  • Collaborate to determine camera location, setup, operation, and strike.
  • Set up and connect cameras with the Remote Production Truck.
  • Achieve desired picture framing, camera movement, lens zoom, and sharp focus.
  • Attempt new camera shots during rehearsals and broadcasts.
  • Ensure correct equipment is available for remote productions.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and solve technical camera problems.
  • Partner with Production Management for appropriate TNT Signage.
  • 5-7 years of network-level broadcast camera operation experience.
  • Ability to operate various remote production cameras, including handheld.
  • Proficiency in camera movements (zoom, tilt, pan, focus, pedestal, dolly).
  • Familiarity with camera settings/menus (viewfinder, comms).
  • Ability to securely mount, balance, and operate Sony broadcast cameras on tripods.
  • Strong leadership and excellent communication skills.
  • Ownership and accountability for assigned projects.
  • Good computer skills, logical approach, and creative eye.
  • Ability to handle pressures of live programming and time constraints.
  • Availability for flexible, non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays.

Your New Role...

The Remote Game Camera Operator works closely with the Show Director, Technical Operations, Video Engineers, Production Managers, other Camera Operators and Camera Utilities. This position is responsible for assisting in the set up and strike of all cameras and camera equipment required for the execution of the remote production as well as assisting with the preplanning process surrounding equipment needs for the remote productions. The Remote Game Camera Operator takes direction from the Show Director in terms of camera movement, lens zooms, lens focus and achieving the desired picture framing. This position may also be responsible for operating handheld cameras.

Your Role Accountabilities...

LIVE/TAPED PRODUCTIONS

  • Operate as a lead camera on a remote job site. Work with the Tech Manager and Show Director to put equipment in the proper locations and put local operators in the correct positions. Be the lead point person for the tech manager to distribute information and react to sudden show and schedule changes.
  • Collaborate with the Show Director, Technical Director, Video Engineer, Tech Manager, and other Camera Operators to determine the location, setup, operation, and strike of the cameras
  • Works closely with the Tech Manager and Video Engineer to set up and connect (fax) the cameras with the Remote Production Truck
  • Works with the Show Director and Technical Director to achieve the desired picture framing, camera movement, lens zoom while maintaining a sharp lens focus
  • Works to attempt new camera shots during rehearsals and at appropriate times during broadcasts, selling them to the Show Director for use

COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION

  • Work with Directors and Tech Ops to make sure we have the correct equipment needed for remote productions. This involves understanding the size of a show and what gear is needed that is not carried on a traditional television truck. Must be proactive in finding out what gear is utilized during a season and have it ready for incoming crews.
  • Work closely with the Video Engineers and Tech Managers to identify, troubleshoot and solve technical problems surrounding the different cameras involved in remote productions. Making sure each problem is resolved to completion
  • Partner with Production Management to make sure appropriate TNT Signage (lens sleeves, table skirts, mic flags, backdrops) are sent to each venue

Qualifications & Experiences...

  • 5 – 7 years of network level broadcast production experience operating as a camera operator for live and/or taped remote multi-camera productions
  • Knowledge of current industry standards
  • Knowledge and ability to operate at a network level skillset different types of remote production cameras such as cameras on tripods and Handheld cameras
  • Knowledge of camera movements (zoom, tilt, pan, focus, pedestal, dolly)
  • Knowledge of camera settings/menus (viewfinder, comms, etc.)
  • Able to securely mount, balance and operate Sony broadcast cameras on tripods from a production truck for live broadcasts.
  • Must have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
  • Must take ownership and accountability for assigned projects
  • Good computer skills, a logical approach and creative eye
  • Must be able to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints
  • Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays

Not Required but preferred experience:

  • Understanding of 4k camera technology
  • Knowledgeable of new technologies available or on the horizon
