Job Description

This Security Technician position is part of the facilities team, reporting to the Security Supervisor. The role involves performing general security duties to protect company assets and employees from theft, assault, fire, and other safety issues. Key responsibilities include conducting internal and external patrols, documenting activities, responding to emergencies, and assisting facilities and HSE teams. The role requires obtaining First Aid/CPR/AED and unarmed security guard certifications.
Good To Have:
  • Customer service experience of 6+ months preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior corporate security experience.
Must Have:
  • Comply with company policy and quality system.
  • Observe and report crime/suspicious activities.
  • Patrol premises, document activities, monitor surveillance.
  • Submit shift reports on observations.
  • Respond to emergencies, assist employees/visitors.
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Operate snow removal equipment.
  • Escort employees to vehicles.
  • Assist facilities and HSE teams.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain Unarmed Security Guard certification within 3 months.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good driving record and ability to drive snow removal equipment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make good decisions.
  • Obtain valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Position Summary

Shift Schedule: Friday thru Sunday (6:00am to 6:30pm)

This position will serve as a member of the facilities team reporting primarily to the Security Supervisor and secondarily to the Security Manager. The position will perform general security duties to protect the company’s assets and employees relative to theft, assault, fire, and other safety and facility issues.

Primary Duties

  • Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of bioMerieux Quality System.
  • Observe for signs of crime and suspicious activities and report to the proper company departments.
  • Secure premises by completing patrols internal and external to the buildings and document activities in a written log and/or electronic application due at the conclusion of each shift. The patrols will include building access points, general grounds, and may include monitoring surveillance equipment.
  • Complete and submits shift reports by recording observations, information, and surveillance activities. The shift report is due at the conclusion of each shift.
  • Immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and site visitors.
  • Obtain certification in First Aid/CPR/AED and be prepared to render aid to the level of your training.
  • Operate equipment used to clear roadways, parking areas, and walking paths after a snowfall.
  • Escort employees at their request to vehicles at all hours.
  • Assist facilities and HSE teams with miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Supplemental Data

  • Contact Supervisor in emergencies or with unusual situations.
  • Contact campus or SLC Police for support.
  • May work nights, swing shift and weekends.
  • Must be capable of working alone and without direct supervision.
  • Work outside patrolling day and night.
  • Not armed
  • Will be required to obtain state certification as an unarmed security guard.
  • May be assigned to work at multiple locations in the Salt Lake Valley

Training, Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience of 6+ months preferred.
  • Unarmed Security Guard certification required within 3 months of hire date.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 3 months of hire date.
  • No years of Security experience, we will train.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior corporate security experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Ability to drive snow removal equipment and have a good driving record.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to make good decisions with available information.
  • Must obtain a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
  • Must be able to sit and or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Walk on even and uneven surfaces and stairs.
  • Have fine motor coordination.
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and can gown for clean room environments.
