Position Summary
We are looking for a Senior Creature Technical Director who reflects ILM's innovative spirit, collaborative mindset, and passion for filmmaking. You'll work autonomously and at a high standard, responsible for rigging and/or simulating creatures, vehicles, and props, and resolving pipeline issues under Lead and Supervisor guidance.
What You’ll Do:
- Simulate shots and sequences.
- Create simulation setups for cloth, hair, and muscle.
- Develop and maintain animation rigs.
- Collaborate on new workflows with other departments, R&D, and pipeline.
- Document and mentor artists on workflows.
- Debug and troubleshoot rigs and simulations.
- Support creative and technical approaches for rigging and simulation.
- Work independently to resolve technical and aesthetic problems.
- Proactively address potential issues.
- Foster inclusive collaboration and team support.
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive experience in high-end VFX or animated features.
- Strong Maya and/or Houdini knowledge and proficiency in VEX/Python.
- Proven ability to create complex character simulations and/or rigs.
- Deep understanding of VFX asset/creature pipelines.
- Experience with cloth/hair/flesh simulation and/or rigging in Maya.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience supporting team members and fostering collaboration.
- Proficiency in Linux and Python scripting.
- Demonstrated high-level performance on at least 5 credited shows.
- Feature Animation experience a bonus

This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be required to work a minimum of 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
