The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of SQL Server systems, both on-premises and in Microsoft Azure. This role ensures high availability, optimal performance, and security of database platforms. Key responsibilities include installing, configuring, and maintaining MS SQL Server instances, managing database performance, designing and implementing high availability solutions, implementing automation scripts, planning and executing database migrations, collaborating with development teams, maintaining compliance, monitoring database systems, and creating documentation.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture and administration.
  • Experience with on-premises and Azure SQL services.
  • Hands-on experience with backup/recovery strategies.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL scripting and performance tuning.
Good to have:
  • Experience with Azure portal and monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of security concepts.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes.
  • Experience with cloud migration strategies and tools.

Job Description

Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of SQL Server systems, both on-premises and in Microsoft Azure. The role ensures high availability, optimal performance, and security of database platforms in support of business operations. This position requires deep technical expertise in traditional on-premise environments as well as modern Azure-based database services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain MS SQL Server instances in on-prem and Azure environments.

  • Manage and monitor database performance, integrity, and security.

  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks including backups, restores, indexing, and statistics updates.

  • Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Always On, Log Shipping, Azure Geo-Replication).

  • Implement and maintain automation scripts and jobs for administrative tasks.

  • Plan and execute database migrations from on-prem to Azure and vice versa.

  • Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to optimize SQL code and schema designs.

  • Maintain compliance with data governance, security, and privacy regulations.

  • Monitor database systems and proactively respond to performance alerts and incidents.

  • Create and maintain documentation related to architecture, configuration, and procedures.

  • Assist in capacity planning and provide technical guidance on best practices for database management.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in production environments.

  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, internals, and administration.

  • Proven experience with both on-premises SQL Server instances and Azure SQL services (Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance).

  • Hands-on experience with backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and high availability configurations.

  • Proficiency in T-SQL scripting and performance tuning (query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plans).

  • Experience with Azure portal, Azure Monitor, and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Azure Automation, ARM templates); Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds, or similar.

  • Knowledge of security concepts, including role-based access control, encryption, and auditing.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes and integrating database changes into pipelines.

  • Experience with cloud migration strategies and tools (e.g., Data Migration Assistant, Azure Migrate).
