Job Summary

The HWS-CC team within NXP’s GOE organization is responsible for the design, manufacturing, compliance, and supply chain operations of hardware boards. They are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to architect, design, and implement high-quality, robust, and state-of-the-art board hardware for various business units. This role encompasses all product aspects, from R&D design and bring-up to production support and sustaining engineering.

Must Have

  • Architect, design, and support mission-critical NXP platforms and complex electronic systems.
  • Participate in reviews of schematics and layouts to improve products.
  • Perform PISI simulations when required.
  • Provide design expertise and regional support for BU silicon, application teams, and third parties.
  • Work closely with SoC and Applications team to define and document requirements.
  • Ensure board designs are cost-effective for their intended applications.
  • Provide technical oversight to the CAD team for proper PCB layout design.
  • Prepare test procedures and associated test reports.
  • Strong bring-up and debugging skills in a lab environment with test equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a design team environment.
  • Define architecture to implement design per Technical Requirements Document (TRD).
  • Develop system architecture options, analyze performance, and make recommendations.
  • Full ownership and leadership in hardware design at board and system level.
  • Implement competitive, high-quality, cost-effective, and on-time designs.
  • Critical out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Drive standards for schematics, logic symbols, design for test, manufacturing, and certifications.
  • Hands-on experience with Analog & Digital circuits, PMIC, Microcontrollers, Microprocessors.
  • Working knowledge of LPDDR4, LPDDR5, Ethernet, PCIe, USB, UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, SDHC, eMMC, and other high-speed interfaces.
  • Knowledge and experience in RF communication using WiFi, BLE, NFC, V2X, GSM.
  • Good knowledge and hands-on experience on EMI/EMC analysis & testing.
  • Good knowledge and hands-on experience on Power Integrity and Signal Integrity simulations.

Good to Have

  • Exposure and design experience in Consumer, Automotive, Networking, Wireless and/or Industrial applications.

Job Description

HWS-CC is a team within NXP’s GOE organization responsible for design, manufacturing, compliance and supply chain operations of hardware boards. The organization provides hardware solutions to all business units within NXP through its global presence in North America, Europe, and Asia. Board types include customer reference design, silicon validation, failure analysis, and reliability applications.

The team is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to architect, design and implement high quality, robust, and state of the art board hardware for a wide range of businesses and targeted verticals. The individual is responsible for all aspects of the product from the R&D design stage, bring-up, production support, and sustaining engineering as needed.

Job responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, and support a variety of mission critical NXP platforms and associated tradeoffs for complex electronic systems that span hardware, software, and mechanical aspects.
  • Participate in reviews of schematics and layouts to improve products across the Hardware Solutions team
  • Perform PISI simulations when required.
  • Provide design expertise and regional support for BU silicon, application teams, and third parties as needed.
  • Work closely with our SoC and Applications team & Third parties to ensure requirements are properly defined and documented.
  • Ensure board designs are cost effective for their intended applications.
  • Provide technical oversight into the CAD team with respect to proper PCB layout design and best practices.
  • Prepare test procedures and associated test reports documenting the lab results.
  • Strong bring up and debugging skills in a lab environment along with running associated test equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a design team environment.
  • Improve core competency in board design technologies.
  • Engage and provide consultation to external customers on board design and best practices. Perform critical design reviews for key customer accounts as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills to work across organizational boundaries (Marketing, SoC, SW, Applications , Validation, PE/TE etc).

  • Drive innovations in design process and design IP reuse and provide training and promotion for new technologies and methodologies to teams.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience on Analog & Digital circuit, PMIC, Microcontrollers, Microprocessor,
  • Working knowledge of LPDDR4, LPDDR5, Ethernet, PCIe, USB, UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, SDHC, eMMC, other high-speed serial and parallel interfaces.
  • Knowledge and experience in RF communication using WiFi, BLE, NFC, V2X, GSM and other RF low frequency communication
  • Good knowledge and hands-on experience on EMI/EMC analysis & testing.
  • Good knowledge and hands-on experience on Power Integrity and Signal Integrity simulations.
  • Estimation of time and effort for design and development of Hardware design.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering.
  • 9+ years of board design experience
  • Exposure and design experience in Consumer, Automotive, Networking, Wireless and/or Industrial applications is a plus.
  • Technical knowledge and/or experience in Board Design & Manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong inter-personal and written & oral communication skills.
