Job Description

As the Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will be a key member of the global R&D Management Team, responsible for creating a vision and technology roadmap for global CT SW development. You will operationalize this vision into a development program, manage resources, tools, and training, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. Your role involves defining software development strategy, influencing engineering across all software disciplines, and leading succession planning and talent management. You will also foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
Must have:
  • Master’s degree in SW Engineering or related subject.
  • Deep knowledge in SW engineering, design controls and designing for quality and reliability.
  • Experience and knowledge of cloud technologies and patterns.
  • 10+ years of experience working as an Engineer.
  • 8+ years of experience as an R&D group leader or equivalent.
Good to have:
  • Experience with Lean.
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as medical device development.
  • Experience with organisational change.
  • Experience with imaging systems and AI technology.

Job Description

Your role:

• Part of the global R&D Management Team of CT/AMI

• Creating a north-star vision and technology roadmap for global CT SW development

• Operationalizing the vision into a development program for the SW teams and needs towards platform organizations (IAP, HSDP, CAO, Research) and other businesses

Job Responsibilities:

• Oversees different functional and competency teams, units, and respective budgets within software development, focusing on shaping and delivering new or upgraded software solutions to create superior customer value.
• Manages the portfolio of resources, tools, and training to accomplish current and future key objectives, while developing and maintaining a long-term view on the required competencies and knowledge.
• Translates the organization's business goals, customer and market needs, and technical strategy (aligned with the HealthSuite Reference Architecture - Solutions oriented, Cloud, DevOps, etc.) into a transformation plan and drives its implementation across the teams.
• Holds responsibility for the end-to-end design, development, delivery, and maintenance of software development projects, ensuring high-quality and timely outcomes.
• Defines the software development strategy and vision, often influencing engineering across all software disciplines and identifying potential acquisition targets to enhance capabilities.
• Implements the software-related cross-Business Unit strategy, focusing on smaller but fast-growing transformative business units and legal entities, to align with the overall organizational goals.
• Demonstrates understanding of the state of the art software practices and leading/developing the team in those practices, outlining long-term objectives and strategies to drive innovation and growth within the software domain.
• Communicates a compelling vision, securing executive support for complex projects, and demonstrating a profound understanding of the holistic impact of teams and technologies, positioning for executive leadership roles.
• Leads succession planning and comprehensive talent management, driving employee selection, performance management, compensation management, and career development in alignment with organizational operational goals.
• Leads in local community building and actively contributes to the Philips Architecture Community by sharing best practices through webinars and newsletters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Participates in existing training programs as a trainer and contributes to the development and maintenance of training materials, leveraging expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Master’s degree in SW Engineering or related subject area.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in SW engineering, design controls and designing for quality and reliability.
  • Experience and knowledge of cloud technologies and patterns to transform from a traditional business to a SaaS model
  • 10+ years of experience working as an Engineer.
  • 8+ years of experience as an R&D group leader or equivalent.
  • Experience with Lean
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as medical device development
  • Experience with organisational change
  • Experience with imaging systems and AI technology is a plus, but not a must
  • Experience with agile development a plus
  • Experience with working in a global organization across multiple locations
  • Strong influencing and communication skills
  • Can work with all levels of people internally and externally
  • Business proficiency in English


How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.
Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
