Job Summary

VGW is an interactive entertainment company seeking a Senior Engineer for their Engineering team in Poland. This role focuses on developing the backend of a new platform system designed to host millions of players, specifically building the customer segmentation system. The Senior Engineer will tackle unique, large-scale challenges in a dynamic environment, owning projects from development to deployment and operation, within a cloud-native environment that emphasizes CI/CD, IaC, O11y, and CyberSec.

Must Have

Proficiency in Java or Kotlin for backend development
Experience with cloud technologies, ideally AWS and Kubernetes for infrastructure automation
Knowledge of SQL and noSQL databases (ideally DynamoDB)
Understanding of Apache Kafka
Ability to design and optimize systems for scalability and performance
Able to lead the delivery of technical projects
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
Deliver product features effectively
Collaborate with Engineers and Product members to improve value delivery
Continually review and refine delivery processes
Ensure the platform’s stability, performance, and resilience under heavy transactional load
Oversee design and scaling of high-throughput backend systems
Guide technical decisions, review solutions, maintain best practices
Stay hands-on and up to date with technologies (AWS Cloud, Kubernetes, Java)
Grow and coach the team, fostering strong engineering practices

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering team in Poland and are currently looking for a Senior Engineer to join the team. As a Senior Engineer, you will focus on developing the back end of a new platform system that will host millions of players. This role centres on building the customer segmentation system, offering you the opportunity to tackle unique, large-scale challenges in a dynamic environment.

In terms of our tech stack, we host our docker containerized apps on AWS in EKS Kubernetes. In the containers, we run Kotlin on the JVM. TypeScript runs our client side where it’s mostly React. Our databases is DynamoDB with Snowflake as our Data warehouse.

Role requirements:

Proficiency in Java or Kotlin for backend development;
Experience with cloud technologies, ideally AWS and Kubernetes for infrastructure automation;
Knowledge of SQL and noSQL databases (ideally DynamoDB);
Understanding of Apache Kafka;
Ability to design and optimize systems for scalability and performance;
Able to lead the delivery of technical projects;
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.

Role responsibilities:

Deliver product features effectively, collaborate with Engineers and Product members to improve value delivery, and continually review and refine delivery processes;
Ensure the platform’s stability, performance, and resilience under heavy transactional load;
Oversee design and scaling of high-throughput backend systems;
Guide technical decisions, review solutions, maintain best practices to ensure smooth collaboration across multiple locations;
Stay hands-on and up to date with technologies (AWS Cloud, Kubernetes, Java);
Grow and coach the team, fostering strong engineering practices around cloud, microservices, and distributed systems;
Experience managing a Platform or DevOps team - will be a big advantage.
