Job Description

LSEG is seeking a skilled Statistician & Modeller for their Agriculture Research Team. The role involves developing and improving statistical models for forecasting agricultural commodity supply, demand, and trade flows. The Senior Modeller will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure analytical rigor, operational efficiency, and adaptability of models, and support the transition to cloud-based platforms. Proficiency in statistical modeling, Python, and cloud environments is essential for scalable and reproducible solutions.
Must Have:
  • Own the development of new statistical models forecasting supply, demand, and trade flows for agricultural commodities.
  • Build practical modelling solutions that deliver measurable impact, balancing innovation with scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams across business and research to identify key modelling needs and assess feasibility.
  • Apply rigorous statistical methodologies to validate model assumptions and ensure analytical integrity.
  • Review existing models to confirm their relevance and support continuous improvement through evidence-based evaluation of key performance metrics.
  • Maintain transparency and reproducibility through detailed documentation and version control practices.
  • Support the transition to modern cloud-based platforms for modelling and data processing.
  • Strong background in statistical modelling and data analysis, preferably in agriculture or commodity markets.
  • Proven track record of solving problems in an inventive and resourceful manner, leveraging collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Experience working in cloud-based environments, with exposure to data engineering platforms such as Databricks and Spark, as well as teamwork and workflow tools like GitLab, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Proficiency in Python, with a focus on writing clear and effective code for modelling and data analysis.
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to explain sophisticated ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in statistical modelling or related disciplines.
