Respawn Entertainment is seeking a Senior / Principal Technical Designer to join our Apex Legends team in Madison, Wisconsin. In this role, you will work closely with the Game Design Director to turn our game vision into reality through rapid prototyping and execution. You'll be hands-on with the tools, as well as instrumental in establishing best practices to optimize team efficiency. Reporting directly to the Game Design Director, you will lead by example with your technical expertise.

As a technical designer, you will mentor other designers, helping them solve problems and develop their skills while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Responsibilities:

  • Work with designers, engineers and other creatives to develop the vision and innovate on compelling gameplay systems.
  • Implement and drive gameplay systems and/or modes from concept to ship quality.
  • Align and collaborate with multiple disciplines and communicate the vision of gameplay features.
  • Ensure a high-quality release by bug fixing, balancing, and creating a fun gameplay experience.
  • Pitch ideas, provide feedback and rapid iteration with the team to find the fun and make Apex the best it can be!

Requirements:

  • Experience with scripting languages (such as Lua, Python, Javascript, and/or other scripting languages).
  • Worked on multiple shipped titles as a Technical Designer
  • Passion for crafting gameplay systems, mechanics and gamemodes.
  • Familiarity with the Battle Royale genre.
  • Expertise in comprehending the game design process, specifically with game mechanics and design theory.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with content-driven game engines (Unreal, Frostbite, Unity, GtkRadiant).
  • Ability to read and understand C++
  • Experience developing and in a multiplayer live service environment.
