The TETRA Devices Software Engineering organization, a key component of the TETRA Devices business segment at Motorola Solutions, consists of a diverse group of product architects, solutions architects, software engineers and test engineers. We are situated across various global locations, working collaboratively to develop next-generation solutions that serve our mission critical customers. The TETRA Devices Software Team follows modern software development practices such as continuous integration/continuous deployment, DevOps, component-level and system-level automated testing. We use Agile methodologies to organize our work and we are responsible for end-to-end software development life-cycle. As a TETRA Device Software Team member, you will be responsible for delivering uncompromising quality solutions for a customer base that demands the highest level of assurance that their needs will be served with the products and solutions you develop.
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Software Test Engineer to join our TETRA Team. This pivotal role is a key driver of quality for our mission-critical radio communication systems. The position is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive test strategies across complex hardware/software integrations, encompassing some of the latest technologies available to the market.
The ideal candidate will be a technical expert, experienced in both functional and non-functional manual testing, and a mentor who not only executes but also influences processes, drives innovation, and actively elevates the overall testing standards of the entire team within a vital, high-availability environment.
Responsibilities:
- Requirements Analysis: Understand specifications and functional requirement documents thoroughly to ensure testability.
- Test Strategy & Design: Define the test environment, test suites, test plans, and detailed test cases for complex system features.
- Execution & Reporting: Execute test cases, rigorously analyze results, and effectively report all detected issues/defects with clarity and precision.
- Comprehensive Testing: Perform functional and non-functional testing (including system and integration testing) throughout all testing phases.
- Automation Leadership: Lead the effort to define and implement automation testing processes to aid in future testing efficiency and coverage.
- Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with department members and leadership (internal & external stakeholders).
- Strategic Support: Support the Test Manager in achieving their strategic goals for the Test Team and overall quality roadmap.
- Documentation: Develop essential technical documentation (know-how, best practices, and feature-related documentation).
- Mentorship & Training: Give demonstrations and provide training to other team members (internal & external) to share knowledge and elevate skills.
- Continuous Learning: Keep abreast of industry standards and the newest testing methodologies and tools to ensure technical relevance.
Basic Requirements
- Education: B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Core Experience: 7+ years of experience focused on manual, system, and integration testing.
- System Expertise: Demonstrated experience testing large-scale, high-availability, distributed systems involving both hardware and software.
- Defect Management: Proven experience in effective defect logging and triage processes.
- Tools Proficiency: Working knowledge of test management software (e.g., Jira, ALM, Test Rail).
- Communication: Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) for collaboration and reporting.
- Methodology: Experience working in an Agile development environment (Scrum/Kanban).
- Automation: Experience with automated testing methodologies and principles.
- Development Skills: Experience with test automation frameworks and automation development using languages such as Java or Python.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills and demonstrated capability in team mentoring.

- Environments: Experience working within complex Hardware laboratory environments.
- Domain Knowledge: Background in Telecommunications.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with Networking protocols and concepts.
- Advanced Testing: Experience with Security, Performance & scalability testing methodologies.
