In this role, the person will report to the Vice President of Corporate Tax. Responsibilities would include:
- Hands-on preparation of monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns.
- Preparation of Canadian HST and PST returns.
- Preparation of business license returns.
- Management of personal and real property tax filings and the appeals process with an outside consultant.
- Forecasting of property tax expense for budgeting purposes.
- Evaluating exemption opportunities offered by certain localities.
- Responding to tax notices, information requests and managing tax examinations to a successful resolution.
- Assisting external customers on applicable sales tax issues and obtaining tax refunds as applicable.
- Consulting with internal customers on the taxability of potential transactions including with sales, sales finance, order management, collections, IT, M&A, accounting, and income tax teams.
- Consulting on new business models and mergers and acquisitions (experience with TTA’s, electronic transmission, load and leave, etc.)
- Researching sales and use tax issues for various jurisdictions.
- Monitor new tax developments and legislative changes.
- Evaluating technology automation for indirect taxes.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (CMI for sales tax is preferred, CPA)
- 7+ years of relevant tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department (Big 4 or High Technology Industry, is a plus)
- A committed individual that is diligent in performing self-reviews of their work product and has:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The capability of managing multiple tasks, prioritizing, and adhering to tight timelines.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with SAP and MS Excel (experience with RIA One Source and Taxware is a plus).
- Strong sales and use tax knowledge base required especially the taxation of software, IP and hardware products and relevant tax exemptions.
- Experience with property tax and Canadian HST/PST.
- Experience with performing accounting reconciliations, proposing journal entries, and processing tax payments.
- Experience with directly managing tax examinations. Strong negotiations skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience in people management is a plus.
The annual salary range for California is $144,200 to $267,800. You may also be eligible to receive incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure.
