Job Description

Visual Concepts is seeking a Senior Technical Artist for their Austin studio to join the Tech Art team. This role is for proactive problem solvers passionate about computer graphics, games, and animation. The artist will build and maintain art pipeline technologies, collaborate with Art and Engineering to improve workflows, and solve technical issues related to rigs, animations, and simulations. They will also mentor other artists and contribute to build stability and performance.
Must have:
  • Build and maintain technologies associated with art pipelines and workflows

  • Solve technical issues related to rigs, animations, hair and cloth simulations, and performance capture

  • Partner with the engineering team to ensure build stability, and to ensure that memory and performance budgets are being maintained
  • Mentor other artists as needed
  • Learn from and grow with some of the top talent in the industry

Our Austin studio is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to join our Tech Art team. You will grow and develop in many different areas, learning from a highly skilled team while working on cutting-edge technology. We are open to candidates from all industries who have a passion for games. A list of qualifications is provided below, but please do not hesitate to apply if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and maintain technologies associated with art pipelines and workflows
  • Collaborate with Art and Engineering to drive research, identify new workflows, technologies for improved pipelines, and streamlined creation processes
  • Solve technical issues related to rigs, animations, hair and cloth simulations, and performance capture
  • Collaborate with other technical artists daily to find opportunities for improved workflows and tools
  • Partner with the engineering team to ensure build stability, and to ensure that memory and performance budgets are being maintained
  • Mentor other artists as needed
  • Learn from and grow with some of the top talent in the industry

Who Will Be A Great Fit:

  • 5+ years in the games, film, or animation industries
  • Pro-active problem solvers who like complex challenges
  • Proficiency with Python/C#/C++
  • Fluent in Maya with significant experience in animation, rigging, shaders along with MEL Script/Maya API experience
  • Familiarity with cloth and rigid/soft body physics setup for characters, including collision volumes
  • Skilled with using Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, Perforce, and Motion Builder
  • Experience working with existing pipelines to debug and optimize art asset reduction and validation
  • Passion for tackling mobile centric challenges and understanding mobile platform limitations
  • Prior mobile game development experience a plus!
  • Love for video games (not just ours!)

This is a fully remote role that may be based anywhere in the United States. Below are the expected salary and wage ranges for applicants based in locations where the pay transparency law is in effect: California: $108,900 - $152,500 per year. New York State (inclusive of New York City): $98,100 - $137,300 per year. Washington: $108,900 - $152,500 per year. New Jersey: $98,100 - $137,300 per year. British Columbia: $96,400 - $ 135,000 (CAD) per year. Base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
