Job Description: 

We are seeking a qualified Senior Watchmaker to assist in the inspection and authentication of vintage and modern luxury watches. This role will be part of a team dedicated to ensuring that watch buyers receive high-quality, authentic products. The Senior Watchmaker will be responsible for inspecting the case, strap, movement, and crystal, including opening the watches to examine internal components, and performing basic functional tests to ensure that all parts are correct for the model and are authentic, brand-provided parts. The Senior Watchmaker will then record their findings as one step in the comprehensive inspection process. 

Senior Watchmaker responsibilities: 

• Inspect, identify, and authenticate timepieces across all luxury watch brands 

• Inspect internal and external components and function of watches to determine authenticity, including skillfully opening and reassembling the watch 

• Pressure tests the watch using the correct equipment 

• Reseal and pressure test the watch to ensure the original water resistance, if any, is maintained 

• Test basic functions of the movement to ensure watches are working correctly. 

• Inspect watches for missing components such as screws, pushers, etc.  

• Ensure each watch is clean after each inspection 

• Record authenticity, condition, and product data of each watch 

• Uphold company standards including training, workstation cleanliness, and open communication 

• Represent the company and department at industry events and workshops, as needed 

• Ensure standards and adherence to SOPs through hands-on-training, routine assessments and audits 

• Advanced movement verification: Deep technical support in identifying swapped, altered or non-original movements- especially in high risk and vintage watches  

• Internal reference building: Assisting with the creation of a movement and brand database for authenticators, cataloging nuances across models and calibers  

• Mentoring and knowledge sharing: Supporting the authentication team with technical literacy by developing internal resourcing, hands on demos, or calibration standards  

• Equipment & Process Optimization: Helps to evaluate tools, lighting, and workflow setups to reduce risk and improve throughput  

• Archive Research & Brand Liaison: Offering expertise in researching rare vintage or heritage pieces, often involving coordination with brands and external databases   

• Mentoring new watchmakers and assisting with their growth and development 

Senior Watchmaker qualifications: 

• Extensive knowledge and experience on the components, movements, materials, and models of watches across luxury brands 

• Experience handling vintage and modern watches 

• Knowledgeable about latest trends in counterfeit watches 

• Knowledge of both Quartz and Mechanical movements 

• 7-10+ years of experience as a watchmaker within a top brand with duties including servicing, repairing, and authenticating 

• Proficiency with watchmaking equipment and tools.  

• Comfortable working in fast paced environment to meet SLAs 

• Desire to keep up with changes, advances, and trends in the watch industry Ability to work on a variety of tasks and adapt to process changes as work evolves   

• CW21 or equivalent certification preferred  

• Brand certifications from major watch brands preferred

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
