Job Description

This role involves working with Apple's mobile device SOC team, specifically focusing on memory interface signal integrity from package to board. Responsibilities include electrical and physical design, extraction, validation, SI/PI modeling, simulation, and characterization of memory interfaces. The engineer will optimize memory system design, develop test plans, debug issues, and conduct end-to-end simulation studies to meet timing and voltage specifications. The role also involves providing design guidelines and performing feasibility studies for next-generation signaling schemes.
Good To Have:
  • MSEE + 8 years of industry experience and or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Excellent academic background.
Must Have:
  • Prior design and modeling experience with DDR or LPDDR interfaces.
  • Work on electrical and physical design of memory systems.
  • Work on electrical extraction and validation of package and MLB.
  • Work with circuit and controller team to optimize memory system design.
  • Work on SI and PI modeling, simulation, and characterization memory interface.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate signal and power integrity.
  • Work with product engineering and system engineering to debug and to improve product yield.
  • Conduct end-to-end signal integrity and power integrity simulation studies.
  • Provide feedbacks and guidelines to silicon floorplan, package, system design, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Provide optimal IO settings and design guideline to cross-functional teams.
  • Perform feasibility study for next generation of signaling scheme.
  • Perform correlation between simulation and silicon measurement.
  • BS + 10 years of industry experience.
  • Familiar with signal and power integrity issues of memory interfaces.
  • Prior experience working with actual product package/board design and analysis, PI/SI methodology development, and lab correlation/validation of the simulation results.
  • Familiar with lab equipment (VNA, TDR, real-time scope, spectrum analyzer).
  • Strong fundamentals in 3D/2D EM simulation tools and transmission line theory.
  • Proficient in Python with strong foundational coding skills and expertise in leveraging generative AI coding assistants.

In this position, you will work with the team that develops SOCs used within Apple's mobile devices. You will be specifically responsible for memory interface signal integrity for Apple SoCs, covering the span from package to board. Prior design and modeling experience with DDR or LPDDR interfaces are a must-have.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
