Job Summary

The Silicon Photonics Engineer will develop and implement test strategies for optoelectronic devices, leading die-level and system-level testing of various photonic devices. This role involves implementing high levels of test automation, maintaining lab infrastructure, and performing reliability tests. The engineer will provide high-quality measurement data and feedback to design teams, contributing to NPI, manufacturing, and quality management. A PhD or Master's in electrical engineering or physics with in-depth knowledge of semiconductor physics, electromagnetics, and optical communications theory is required, along with expertise in testing optoelectronic devices and proficiency in Python.

Must Have

  • Develop and implement test strategies and build setups for optoelectronic devices and system testing
  • Lead die-level and system-level testing of active and passive photonic devices
  • Implement high level of test automation
  • Supervise, maintain, and continuously improve the lab testing infrastructure
  • Perform reliability tests on optical components and modules (e.g. GR-468)
  • Provide high-quality and precision measurement data to silicon photonic, RFIC and laser design teams
  • Provide layout and test implementation feedback to respective design teams
  • Provide internal input into design, NPI, manufacturing and quality management teams
  • Plan testing schedules with respect to development roadmap and foundry tapeouts
  • Present technical results at internal reviews, conferences, and customer meetings
  • PhD or Masters's degree in electrical engineering, physics or a relevant field
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor physics and electromagnetics
  • In-depth knowledge of optical communications theory and digital communications theory
  • Expertise and experience in testing active and passive optoelectronic devices and integrated photonic circuits die-level, module-level and system-level
  • Solid knowledge and experience with test automation and proficiency in Python coding
  • Understanding of device reliability and module-level qualification of products

Principle duties and essential functions

  • Develop and implement test strategies and build setups for optoelectronic devices and system testing
  • Lead die-level and system-level testing of active and passive photonic devices (silicon, III-V, TFLN, BTO and other)
  • Implement high level of test automation
  • Supervise, maintain, and continuously improve the lab testing infrastructure
  • Perform reliability tests on optical components and modules (e.g. GR-468)
  • Provide high-quality and precision measurement data to silicon photonic, RFIC and laser design teams
  • Provide layout and test implementation feedback to respective design teams in order to speed up testing and increase utilization of test automation
  • Provide internal input into design, NPI, manufacturing and quality management teams
  • Plan testing schedules with respect to development roadmap and foundry tapeouts
  • Present technical results at internal reviews, conferences, and customer meetings

Knowledge and experience required

  • PhD or Masters's degree in electrical engineering, physics or a relevant field
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor physics and electromagnetics
  • In-depth knowledge of optical communications theory and digital communications theory
