Job Summary
The Onsite Customer Growth team at Attentive develops features to help customers grow directly on their websites, focusing on faster list growth through creative capabilities and AI optimization. This Software Engineer I role involves contributing to high-impact products by designing, building, and enhancing backend systems for onsite experiences. The position is hybrid, requiring in-office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday in New York.
Must Have
- Build, test, and maintain backend services and APIs for onsite growth products
- Work closely with AI, data, and product teams to develop intelligent, data-driven capabilities
- Contribute to reliable, scalable, and performant systems for audience growth
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and sprint planning
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- 1-2 years of backend software development experience (including internships or academic projects)
- Familiarity with modern programming languages such as Java, Go, or Python
- Basic understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and microservices architecture
Good to Have
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Exposure to containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Interest in learning about databases, queues, and streaming systems like PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka

The Onsite Customer Growth team develops features that help Attentive’s customers grow directly on their websites. We focus on delivering faster list growth through investments in creative capabilities and leveraging AI to optimize performance.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer I who’s eager to grow their skills and contribute to building high-impact products that drive customer success. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers to design, build, and enhance backend systems that power onsite experiences for millions of users.
This hybrid role is based in our New York office, with in-office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday each week.
What You'll Accomplish
- Build, test, and maintain backend services and APIs that support Attentive’s onsite growth products
- Work closely with teammates in AI, data, and product to develop intelligent, data-driven capabilities that optimize performance and user experience
- Contribute to systems that are reliable, scalable, and performant — helping customers grow their audiences efficiently
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and sprint planning to learn from and collaborate with the team
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code that supports our growth-focused platform.
Your Expertise
- 1-2 years of backend software development experience (including internships or academic projects)
- Familiarity with at least one modern programming language such as Java, Go, or Python
- Basic understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and microservices architecture
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus
- Interest in learning about databases, queues, and streaming systems like PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka
- Curiosity, collaboration, and a desire to grow as an engineer while contributing to meaningful, large-scale systems

For US based applicants:
- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000 - $200,000 annually + equity + benefits
- Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location
