Job Summary

As a Software Engineer II in Big Data on EA's Production Infrastructure & Engineering (PI&E) team, you will design and deliver foundational data services, pipelines, and analytics systems. This role is crucial for providing visibility into critical systems, enabling gamers to play at scale, and impacting hundreds of games and millions of players globally. You will collaborate with product and project management, develop code, build and maintain data pipelines, and design high-scale data lakes/warehouses.

Must Have

  • Collaborate with product, program and project management to ensure clarity and understanding of features and priorities.
  • Expand designs into engineering execution plans and engineering tasks.
  • Develop code meeting peer-reviewed coding standards and practices, using team-selected tools.
  • Build and maintain pipelines and ingest operational data and metrics from across EA's infrastructure.
  • Mapping existing data sources with physical and logical architectures need to provide service hosting details and infrastructure insights.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-scale data lakes/warehouses.

  • Experience with and knowledge of LLMs, ML, and agentic workflows

Production Infrastructure & Engineering (PI&E) organization provides the essential platforms and infrastructure hosting solutions that power EA's live services. Our charter is to make EA's games and services available to all players anytime and anywhere. To do this, we focus on the high availability of infrastructure, primary services, and studio services. We aim to help developers to experiment and build new games quickly with infrastructure services on-demand and workflows that promote rapid development in the cloud. In all of this, we focus on being there for players where and when they want to play.

What a Software Engineer - Big Data does on EA's PI&E team:

As a Software Engineer in big data, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of foundational data services, pipelines, and analytics systems that give visibility into our most important and critical systems - helping gamers to play at scale and having an impact across hundreds of games and millions of gamers. You will report to a Senior Development Manager of PI&E.

We have an amazing facility in Vancouver with a huge sports field and many amenities. However, you will have the ability to work from home and work with a team distributed in different regions.

  • Collaborate with product, program and project management to ensure clarity and understanding of features and priorities.
  • Expand designs into engineering execution plans and engineering tasks.
  • Develop code meeting peer-reviewed coding standards and practices, using team-selected tools.
  • Build and maintain pipelines and ingest operational data and metrics from across EA's infrastructure.
  • Mapping existing data sources with physical and logical architectures need to provide service hosting details and infrastructure insights.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-scale data lakes/warehouses.
  • Experience with and knowledge of LLMs, ML, and agentic workflows

The next great EA Engineer also needs:

  • Experience using database technologies such as MySQL, MongoDB or Cassandra
  • Experience with OLAP data stores/data warehouses (Bigquery, Snowflake, or Redshift)
  • Experience with workflow / ETL management platforms such as Airflow
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, and/or Go.
  • Public cloud provider experience (AWS,GCP, Azure.)
  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent training.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$100,000 - $139,500 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
