American Express is undergoing a digital transformation, and this role is for a Software Engineer III to contribute to building world-class Unified Experience/Omnichannel and personal integration using Microservices and APIs. The role involves designing, developing, troubleshooting customer-facing and internal applications, contributing to agile software builds, analyzing business requirements, performing PR reviews, automating deployments, and scaling applications.

Must Have

  • Design, architect, develop, and code software

  • Advanced experience in Test automation and scripting
  • Advanced experience with performance tuning
  • Effective communication with third parties, technical, and business managers
  • Ability to think abstractly and solve ambiguous problems
  • Ability to enable business capabilities through innovation
  • Experience with web services, Open API development, SOA concepts
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and develop software quickly

You will be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial team responsible for delivering world class Unified Experience / Omnichannel and personal integration through data driven, services using Microservices, APIs. You will be challenged with identifying innovative and transformative ideas and proof of concept to deliver against the existing and future needs of our customers.

Focus - Design, development, troubleshooting, and debugging of work efforts for customer-facing applications, business applications, and/or internal end-user applications.

Organizational Context - Member of engineering & product for delivery and integration

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform technical aspects of software development for assigned applications including design, architecture, developing prototypes, and hands- on coding assignments of various technologies.
  • An Engineer in an agile team by contributing to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation)
  • Performs Analysis of business requirements to identify and recommend technology solutions.
  • PRs reviews and automated testing
  • Work closely with product Management product owners in defining roadmap
  • Leads with engineering mindset of high resiliency, customer experience, built-in monitoring and recovery (Graceful Degradation)
  • Automate deployments in test or production environments, identifies opportunities to adopt innovative technologies
  • Automatically scale applications based on demand projections Leadership
  • Demonstrate increased self-reliance to achieve team goals
  • Influence team members with innovative changes and improvements by challenging status quo and demonstrating risk taking
  • Be a productivity multiplier for your team by analyzing your work flow and contributing to enable the team to be more effective, productive, and demonstrating faster and stronger results.
  • Owns all technical aspects of software development for assigned applications

Qualification Highly Desirable

  • 3 to 5 years of software development experience in a professional environment such as:
  • Wide breath of digital engineering
  • Proficiency in anyone of these or combined -- REACT, Java Script, Java, REST API development, SDK building, Networking topologies,
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile methodology
  • Demonstrated experience with databases like DB2, Oracle, Exadata, Big Data
  • Demonstrated experience to build solutions on Cloud Architecture
  • Advanced experience in Test automation, Test scripting.
  • Advanced experience with performance tuning
  • Ability to effectively communicate across third parties, technical, and business product Managers on solution design
  • Ability to think abstractly and deal with ambiguous/under-defined problems
  • Ability to enable business capabilities through innovation
  • Experience with web services and Open API development, as well as SOA concepts,
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and takes pride in how fast they develop working software
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience, is preferred
  • Exposure to Industry reference architecture of data management and NextGeneration tools and process
  • Experience with payments technology and industry is a plus
