Job Summary
The Director of Analytics at American Express leads a team of 25+ analytics professionals, focusing on delivering data-driven insights across Procurement and Source-to-Pay (S2P). This role involves owning the S2P data strategy, partnering with Technology and GSM Leadership to develop enterprise-grade reporting, dashboards, and analytics capabilities. The leader is expected to provide high-impact insights, elevate analytical maturity, and shape senior-level decision-making.
Must Have
- Define and lead the end-to-end data and analytics strategy for Source-to-Pay, ensuring data quality, standardization, governance, and accessibility.
- Co-create solutions with Technology partners, shaping data architecture, reporting infrastructure, automation pipelines, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, scale, and modernize analytics products to improve user experience and enable data-driven decision-making.
- Act as the strategic analytics partner to the GSM Leadership Team, influencing decision-making through timely insights and forward-looking analytics.
- Develop and deliver executive leadership and CPO-level reporting, including monthly business reviews and executive dashboards.
- Anticipate senior stakeholders’ needs, proactively designing analytical solutions that address emerging business priorities.
- Lead and develop a 25+ member analytics team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
- Provide clear vision, priorities, and development pathways, ensuring the team has the skills, tools, and guidance needed to excel.
- Promote cross-team collaboration within GSM, Finance, Risk, and Technology to ensure alignment and shared outcomes.
- Oversee a robust reporting ecosystem including daily/weekly/monthly WIP reporting for Source-to-Contract, contracting pipeline performance and throughput analytics, P2P dashboards (invoice cycle time, exceptions, and automation), savings validation and benefits tracking, and Travel & Expense analytics.
- Ensure reporting accuracy, strong controls, timely delivery, and adoption across regions.
- Own delivery of monthly global spend insights, and sourcing opportunity identification.
- Craft executive-level narratives that transform complex data into actionable insights.
- Guide GSM LT and category leaders in using analytics to enhance sourcing strategy and operational effectiveness.
- Govern intake and delivery of high-priority ad-hoc requests, ensuring rapid turnaround with zero compromise on analytical quality.
- 20+ years of progressive experience in analytics, BI, data strategy, or S2P analytics.
- 5+ years leading large teams (20+ people) in a global, matrixed environment.
- Strong understanding of procurement systems (Ariba, Oracle), contracting workflows, and P2P processes.
- Expert-level proficiency with Power BI/Tableau, SQL, Python, and data modeling.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with Technology teams on enterprise data platform strategy and delivery.
- Exceptional communication, influencing, and storytelling skills for senior audiences.
- Proven ability to operate in fast-paced environments and deliver results within tight timelines.
