Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer will analyze, design, develop, test, implement, and maintain IT solutions. They will create and modify software applications to provide business functions. Responsibilities include building data-driven systems, architectures, and platforms for analytical outputs and cloud-based application development. They will work with cross-functional teams, identify opportunities for business solutions within data, and translate business problems into analytical methods. They will also be responsible for communicating complex analysis and mining data for insights. The role involves stakeholder management and guiding less experienced team members. Initiatives can range from small enhancements to large development projects.
Must have:
  • 3 years of experience getting data through API with Python
  • Knowledge of big data platforms
  • Proficient coding skills and strong algorithm & data structure basis
  • Knowledge of at least one of the tools: Hadoop, Spark, Presto, Hive, or Airflow
  • Proven ability transforming data, developing data structures, building a metadata store, and setting up data pipelines or data workflows
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude
  • Great software engineering best practices with git and version control systems
  • Solid communication skills to explain complex data pipelines
  • Excellent writing and documenting skills

Job Description

Senior Data Engineer (SS&C Technologies, Inc.; San Francisco, CA): The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining or supporting information technology solutions by creating new and/or modifying existing software applications that provide a business function for the organization or its customers. Specific responsibilities include: Building data driven systems, architectures, and platforms to provide innovative solutions for long-term analytical outputs and cloud-based application development projects. Participating on cross-functional teams of technology, product, and business specialists to deliver best-in-class, customer-centric, big data projects by leveraging leading edge tools and technologies. Using strong technical and quantitative knowledge and skills to identify new opportunities for business solutions within vast amounts and varieties of data, delivers compelling proposals, defines requirements, designs new projects, and guides them through successful delivery and validation to drive business growth. Translating business problems into analytical, data-driven methodology to improve business efficiencies and make significant financial gains. Communicating complex analysis in a clear, understandable way to non-experts. Designs and continuously improves algorithms. Mining raw, relevant data from a variety of sources to identify patterns and correlations and to generate best-in-class actionable and meaningful insights. Managing stakeholders and guides them in unlocking the value in their data. Influencing architectures that will lead to transformation of data analytics platforms and information technology overall. Working on projects of a moderate scope or on varied tasks that require resourcefulness, self-initiative, and significant independent judgement. Guiding less experienced team members. May recommend new procedures. Initiatives may range from small enhancements through the largest, most complex development projects. The technical environment for software development consists of multiple system platforms and a variety of methodologies, techniques, languages, tools, and utilities. Leader of professionals or first-level leaders working on issues of a diverse scope or coordinating department activities. Exercising wide-latitude to make decisions within established company policies to meet business objectives. Advising staff and partners with cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and to develop solutions to issues. Accountable for department results. Establishes procedures and recommends changes to policies.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology, or a related field plus 5 years of experience as a data engineer. Alternatively, will accept Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology, or a related field plus 3 years of experience as a data engineer.

Salary: $188,885 to $200,000 per year
