Job Summary
Blue Yonder is seeking a Sr. Staff Software Engineer with extensive experience in building and deploying Python applications in the cloud, specifically on Microsoft Azure. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining robust backend services, leveraging Azure services like AKS, Helm, and MongoDB. The engineer will lead by example through hands-on coding, peer reviews, and championing best practices in a scalable, event-driven microservices environment. This hybrid role requires a strong technical foundation and the ability to mentor junior engineers.
Must Have
- Architect and develop robust backend services.
- Leverage Microsoft Azure services for building, deploying, and scaling applications.
- Design and develop SaaS solutions focusing on multi-tenancy, scalability, low latency, and high availability.
- Design and develop distributed systems using Kafka for event streaming.
- Lead by example through hands-on coding and peer code reviews.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams for seamless integration and delivery.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize code for scalability and reliability.
- Champion software engineering best practices like TDD, CI/CD, and secure coding.
- Minimum 10+ years in software development with a focus on Python service design and architecture.
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka.
- Expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud services.
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs.
- Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Good to Have
- Front-end experience with Typescript.
- Experience with CQRS and Event Sourcing patterns.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or ARM templates.
- Knowledge of GraphQL and gRPC.
- Experience in building high-availability systems and disaster recovery planning.
- Contributions to open-source projects and active participation in tech communities.
- Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, PubSub, BigQuery).

Overview:

- We are seeking an experienced Sr Staff Engineer with deep expertise building and deploying Python applications in the cloud.
Our current technical environment:
- Application: Python, FastAPI
- Architecture: Scalable, Resilient, Event-driven, Secure, Multi-tenant, Microservices
- Cloud: MS Azure (ARM templates, AKS, HD insight, Application Gateway, Virtue Networks, Event Hub, Azure AD)
- Other: Kubernetes, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB
What will you do:
- Architect and Develop: Design, implement, and maintain robust backend services.
- Cloud Solutions: Leverage Microsoft Azure services for building, deploying, and scaling applications. Work with solutions like Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Helm, Terraform, GitHub Actions and MongoDB.
- SaaS Development: Design and development of SaaS solutions, focusing on multi-tenancy, scalability, low latency and high availability.
- Event-Driven Systems: Design and develop distributed systems using Kafka for event streaming, real-time data processing, and messaging.
- Hands-on Leadership: Lead by example through hands-on coding, peer code reviews, and setting high standards for software quality, performance, and security.
- Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, and support to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative development environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of features.
- Performance Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks, troubleshoot complex issues, and optimize code for maximum scalability and reliability.
- Best Practices: Champion software engineering best practices such as test-driven development (TDD), continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and secure coding standards.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or any other relevant field.
- Minimum of 10 plus years of experience in software development with a focus on design and architecture of Python services.
- Proven experience working with widely distributed systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka for building scalable event-driven applications.
- Expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud services, including deploying microservices and managing infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and designing scalable backend systems with some front end experience with Typescript
- Strong knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience with CQRS and Event Sourcing patterns.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
- Knowledge of GraphQL and gRPC is a plus.
- Experience in building high-availability systems and disaster recovery planning.
- Contributions to open-source projects and active participation in tech communities.
- Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, PubSub, BigQuery) is a bonus.

The annual salary range for this position is USD $150,384.61 - $189,615.38
The salary range information provided, reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual salary will be commensurate with skills, experience, certifications or licenses and other relevant factors. In addition, this role will be eligible to participate in either the annual performance bonus or commission program, determined by the nature of the position.
