Job Description

The Staff Engineer will join a dedicated team at Qualcomm focused on achieving industry-leading power consumption on chipsets. This role involves collaborating with various teams (systems, software, hardware) to develop and implement power solutions. Key responsibilities include power use case modeling, analysis, correlation, and improvement cycles, as well as maintaining and developing modeling tools and methodologies. The candidate will translate power estimate requests into detailed tasks, analyze modeling outputs, and propose improvement solutions, enabling other teams to perform in-depth power analysis.

Must Have:
  • Recent and relevant experience in application processor, modem communication systems design, or mobile technologies (WAN modem, CPU, camera, graphics).
  • Experience in commercialization of System-level power features.
  • Interest in System and analysis.
  • Solid foundation in Electrical Engineering.
  • Ability to work with spreadsheets and custom tools at a detailed level.
  • Systems/HW background with understanding of microprocessor and common SoC hardware blocks (Interconnects, Display, Graphics).
  • Maintain and develop chipset level power use case modeling tools and methodologies.
  • Work with power HW/SW/System teams to collect power use case definition and characteristics.
  • Understand hardware architecture/design and how power use cases map to HW blocks.
  • Translate power estimate requests into detailed tasks for end-to-end use case power modeling.
  • Analyze modeling output, summarize results, present, and propose improvement solutions.
  • Enable other teams to leverage tools and methodologies for in-depth power analysis.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 4+ years of Systems Engineering experience (or Master's with 3+, or PhD with 2+).

General Summary:

Skills/experience:

  • Recent and relevant experience required in one or more of the following areas:
  • Application processor
  • Modem Communication systems design
  • Experience in mobile technologies areas (e.g., WAN modem, CPU, camera, graphics)
  • Experience in commercialization of System-level power features is required, and an interest in System and analysis is a must.
  • Solid foundation in Electrical Engineering, with the ability to work with spreadsheets and other custom tools at a detailed level.

Responsibilities:

The candidate is responsible for:

  • Maintaining and developing chipset level power use case modeling tools and methodologies.
  • Working with the power HW/SW/System teams to collect power use case definition and characteristics.
  • Understanding the hardware architecture/design at a high level and how the power use cases exercise and map to individual HW blocks.
  • Translating the power estimate requests into detailed tasks for end-to-end use case power modeling Analyzing the modeling output, summarizing the results, presenting, and proposing the improvement solutions.
  • Enabling other teams to leverage the tools and methodologies to perform in-depth power analysis.

Education requirements:

  • Required: Bachelor's/master’s Computer Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering
  • Preferred: Masters

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

OR

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

OR

  • PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
