Strategy and Product Specialists (SPs) are versatile generalists who employ a deeply analytical and strategic approach to solve pressing problems at Jane Street. They transition across various groups as firm priorities evolve, cultivating a comprehensive understanding of the business and driving cross-functional growth. Typically, an SP's career begins with a year of rotations through different departments, including trading, technology, finance, compliance, and operations, to build a broad skill set and a detailed view of the business. This foundational experience enables SPs to take ownership of strategic initiatives, both within their teams and in collaborative projects, often moving between teams throughout their careers to align with evolving interests and firm priorities, ultimately playing a central role in shaping the business.

About the Position

SPs are versatile generalists who take a deeply analytical and strategic approach to solving Jane Street’s most pressing problems. They move across groups as firm priorities evolve, developing a holistic view of our business and driving cross-functional growth. 

Most SP careers start with a year-long set of rotations across the entirety of Jane Street’s business—including trading, technology, finance, compliance, operations, and more. The rotations help new SPs develop a broadened skill set, strong cross-group connections, and a detailed understanding of how all the pieces of our business fit together. 

This central foundation prepares an SP to take ownership over strategic efforts, both within their team and in cross-functional initiatives. While the rotational year ends with a “permanent” group placement, SPs often move teams throughout their careers as their interests and the firm’s priorities shift. This ultimately allows successful SPs to take an increasingly central role in shaping our business.

We don’t expect you to have a background in finance or any other specific field—we’re looking for smart people who enjoy solving interesting problems. You should be:

  • A professional with a track record of success in challenging, rigorous environments
  • Someone who excels at taking a structured and detailed approach to solving problems, communicates effectively, can drive projects forward, and has exceptional attention to detail
  • Excited to learn about a wide range of disciplines and subject matter, including global market dynamics, technical systems and tooling, operational infrastructure, and more
  • Eager to ask questions, admit mistakes, and constantly deepen your understanding
