Apple's hardware engineering team is seeking an energetic and self-driven Systems Validation Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and execution of validation plans for Apple’s Hyper-scale and Storage Server platforms. This role involves developing automation, validating, reviewing, and debugging customized platforms for Apple's datacenter environments. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in testing Intel and AMD x86-based server and storage hardware systems, with a comprehensive understanding of server, low-speed, high-speed buses, rack-level, and network architecture validation, as well as software development expertise.
Good To Have:
  • M.S. Degree with 3-5 years of experience.
  • Review and audit ODM validation reports.
  • Working understanding of OS kernel and modules/drivers (ability to compile is a plus).
  • Experience with server and component firmware upgrade processes.
  • Basic understanding of network infrastructure (layer 1, 2, and 3).
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, lead/mentor, and innovate.
  • MacOS experience is a plus.
Must Have:
  • Lead development of test automation, test plans, and procedures.
  • Perform system testing including stress, performance, power, thermal, OS/driver compatibility, and debug.
  • Conduct rack-level testing for power, thermal, networking, rack management, shock, and vibe.
  • Possess in-depth working knowledge of Linux kernel, system functions, and debugging.
  • Experience using stress tools and benchmarks to identify design flaws.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb and hands-on lab experience with system installation, de-installation, repair, and validation.

As a Systems Validation Engineer, you will have demonstrated proficiency in testing Intel and AMD x86-based server and storage hardware systems. The candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of server, low-speed, and high-speed buses, rack-level, and network architecture validation, as well as demonstrated software development expertise.

  • In this role, you will lead all aspects of the development of test automation, the creation of test plans and procedures and vendor management.
  • Be able to use tools related to validating servers and racks at different levels, including firmware, functional, performance, power, thermal, operating system, and error handling.
  • Your responsibilities will ensure that the system and rack designs are functional and operate as specified.
  • BS Degree in engineering with minimum 4-8 years relevant work experience
  • Experience performing system testing: stress testing, performance testing, power and thermal testing, OS and driver compatibility testing, debug, etc.
  • Experience with rack level testing: power and thermal testing, networking, rack management infrastructure testing, shock and vibe, etc.
  • In-depth, working knowledge of Linux kernel, Linux system functions and debugging (driver, firmware, OS configuration, etc), MacOS a plus.
  • Experience using various stress tools and benchmarks to evaluate system behavior and identify patterns and test cases that rapidly expose design flaws.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb (required for system installation) with hands-on in the lab experience, preferably with lab environments at scale 100+ systems; install / de-install / repair / validate.
  • M.S. Degree with minimum 3-5 years experience.
  • Reviews and audits ODM validation reports to ensure alignment to specifications and engages with partnering teams to efficiently transition systems from development into production and sustaining.
  • Working understanding of OS kernel and modules / drivers (ability to compile driver or kernel module is a plus). Experience with server and component firmware upgrade process as well as network infrastructure (basic understanding of layer 1, 2 and 3)
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills, ability to work independently, a desire to lead/mentor, and demonstrated ability to innovate are required.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
