DESIGN
What we do
We put your design skills into action at a cutting-edge company that challenges convention. From character and level design to competitive gameplay and system design, we help shape the future of interactive entertainment at Epic.
What you will do
Epic Games is looking for talented and experienced UI Technical Designers to work on Fortnite. In this position, you will act as a collaborative team member, implementing UI system designs in Unreal Engine, rapidly prototyping layouts, visual scripts, and enhancing our workflows. You will work with UX designers, artists, and UI engineers to deliver these features to millions of users worldwide. The ideal candidate must have experience in introductory algebra and geometric mathematics ("Game math"), game systems, and fundamental programming principles.
In this role, you will
- Work on UI system design, breaking down features/wireframes into necessary widgets, structures, and classes; increase UI performance by ensuring best practices are followed by colleagues.
- Verify that assets/UI are within memory and CPU constraints, learning to define UMG/Slate/C++ performance and costs, and texture memory.
- Implement logic in Blueprint when necessary for presentation. Assist UI artists, when necessary, in implementing special presentation behaviors. Consult with UI engineers on which logic will be implemented in Blueprint and which will be native code.
- Quickly debug problems in Blueprints/UMG using various tools and techniques.
- Find ways to assist UX, UI Art, and UI engineering in organizing, documenting, and building workflow improvements.
What we are looking for
- Three to six years of experience in UI creation and experience in game engines and on multiple platforms (mobile, web, PC, consoles) or equivalent experience.
- More than two years of experience launching updates and new features to a user base on a regular cadence or equivalent experience.
- Professional experience with Photoshop, Figma, game engines (Custom Engine, Unity, UE4, Lumberyard, Snowdrop etc.) and experience with 3D packages in games (3D Studio, Maya etc.).
- Have good perception for UI-perfect, translating and identifying potential problems with mockups when integrating designers into the engine.
- Ability to solve problems logically and attention to detail.
- Ability to "translate" communication between departments (explain UI Art needs to engineers, summarize technical problems, etc.), as well as empathy for non-technical team members and the ability to empower them.
Benefits
We pay 100% of benefits for both employees and dependents. Our current benefits package includes medical, dental, and life insurance coverage. We also offer complementary benefits, including daily meal vouchers and transportation benefits for local employees.
