Job Summary
As a Gameplay UX Designer at Ubisoft, you will solidify the link between game design, UI, sound, visual effects, and other feedback sources to create a fluid and immersive experience. You will ensure content is communicated clearly and navigation is intuitive, allowing players to fully immerse themselves. Focusing on the entire game, you will find creative ideas to prevent frustrating breaks in player experience and resolve any unwanted friction.
Must Have
- Collaborate with ergonomists and user research teams to understand player behaviors and needs.
- Develop the overall game experience (flow, layout, logic, navigation, controls, feedback).
- Design the onboarding experience for seamless learning.
- Create prototypes and mock-ups to test concepts and communicate complex online features.
- Work closely with UI artists and the online team for functional and visual balance.
- Collaborate with interdependent teams (audio, art, animation, narrative, game/level design).
- Adapt designs based on playtest results and feedback from interdependent teams.
- Stay updated on interaction design best practices and promote them.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in UX, game design, or level design.
- Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and prototyping tools (e.g., Axure RP).
- Strong understanding of interface/interaction design, information/product architecture, and research techniques.

As a Gameplay UX Designer at Ubisoft, you will solidify the link between game design, UI, sound, visual effects, and other feedback sources to create a fluid and immersive experience.
You will ensure that content is communicated clearly and that its navigation is intuitive so that players can fully immerse themselves in the game.
Throughout the user-centered development process, you will focus on the entire game while considering the impact of each design choice. As a creative resource person, you will find ideas to avoid frustrating breaks in player experience. You will resolve any unwanted friction preventing our players from having fun as they should.
What you will do
- Collaborate with ergonomists and user research teams to gain a precise understanding of player behaviors, objectives, motivations, values, needs, etc.
- Develop the overall game experience (flow, layout, logic, navigation, controls, feedback, etc.).
- Design the onboarding experience to ensure seamless learning.
- Create prototypes and mock-ups to test concepts, explore possibilities, identify difficulties, and communicate complex online functionalities to the development team.
- Work (very) closely with UI artists and the online team to find the balance between functionality and visual presentation.
- Collaborate with interdependent teams (audio, art, animation, narrative, game and level design, etc.) to support gameplay elements.
- Adapt your designs according to playtest results and feedback from interdependent teams.
- Stay abreast of best practices in interaction design + promote them across the studio.
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- A college diploma in game design, digital arts, or equivalent (an undergraduate degree is an asset)
- At least 2 years of experience in UX, game design, level design, or other relevant experience
- Experience with the Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and prototyping tools (e.g., Axure RP)
- A good understanding of interface and interaction design, information and product architecture, and research techniques
- A collaborative, creative, empathetic, and innovative spirit
- The ability to accept and adapt to feedback
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Attention to the most subtle details + a passion for video games
- Knowledge of gameplay programming, a real asset
