Job Summary

The Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs at Universal Music Group will serve as a senior legal and strategic advisor, guiding the organization through complex corporate, strategic, and financial transactions. This role involves partnering with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to support M&A, joint ventures, investment activity, and financing initiatives. The VP will also shape governance practices, drive legal processes, anticipate risk, and navigate evolving legal landscapes to advance UMG’s long-term growth with precision and strategic alignment.

Must Have

  • Provide legal support for corporate, strategic, and financial transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, investments, and debt offerings.
  • Assist with development and administration of standard forms, policies, and procedures for transactional matters.
  • Coordinate legal due diligence and disclosures for corporate, strategic, and finance transactions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risk issues related to transactions.
  • Review, analyze, and stay current on domestic and international legal developments.
  • Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school.
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
  • 5-7 years of experience handling transactional matters as a lawyer in a law firm or in-house legal department.

  • Law Firm or in-house experience relating to M&A, Finance, and/or Venture Capital Investments.
  • Problem solver oriented towards finding practical solutions and providing practical guidance.
  • Strong oral and written communication, presentation, training, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, innovative, and able to provide high-quality and timely work product.
  • Ability to manage a large number and variety of projects independently in an ambiguous environment.

How We LEAD:

The VP, Business & Legal Affairs will serve as a senior legal and strategic advisor across the organization, guiding UMG through complex corporate, strategic, and financial transactions. In this role, you will partner closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to support mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, investment activity, and financing initiatives, while shaping governance practices and driving best-in-class legal processes. Bringing strong transactional judgment and a business-forward mindset, the VP will help anticipate risk, craft scalable frameworks, and navigate evolving domestic and international legal landscapes. This role is central to advancing UMG’s long-term growth, ensuring that corporate initiatives are executed with precision, insight, and strategic alignment.

How You'll CREATE:

  • Provides legal support and leadership for (i) corporate transactions including mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, (ii) strategic transactions including joint ventures and private equity investments and other commercial arrangements, (iii) financial transactions including credit facilities and debt offerings and (iv) corporate governance and public company matters.
  • Assists with development, maintenance and administration of standard forms, policies and procedures relating to various corporate, strategic and finance transactional matters.
  • Coordinates legal due diligence and disclosures relating to corporate, strategic, and finance transactions.
  • Works collaboratively and creatively with cross-functional corporate team and business units and provides broad spectrum legal support in identifying and mitigating risk issues relating to corporate, strategic, and finance transactions.
  • Reviews, analyzes and keeps current on domestic and international legal developments relevant to areas of responsibility.

Bring Your VIBE:

  • Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school and Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
  • 5-7 years of experience handling transactional matters as a lawyer practicing in a law firm and/or in the legal department of a public or private company.
