Job Description

The Anchor & Reporter - Weather will aggressively cover active weather, keeping the audience informed across multiple platforms, with mastery in severe and winter weather coverage. This role involves working collaboratively with news producers, assignment desk, reporters, and the weather team to creatively produce weather content on air and online, including live segments for morning newscasts and pre-recorded briefs.

Must Have:
  • Work overnight/early morning shift (approx. 2:30 AM – 9:30 AM, including prep and lunch break).
  • Produce and present live weather segments for Houston’s two-hour morning newscast.
  • Connect remotely to deliver live weather segments for Sacramento’s one-hour newscast.
  • Pre-record weather briefs for Houston and Sacramento, plus additional markets as assigned.
  • Proactively prepare weather updates and graphics for multiple platforms.
  • Cover and track severe, tropical, and impactful weather events with urgency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with producers, reporters, assignment desks, and the broader Weather Center team.
  • Remain flexible to handle special requests from additional markets within the Univision network.
  • College degree in meteorological sciences or equivalent technical training.
  • 2+ years of experience as a weather anchor and reporter and/or meteorologist, on-air.
  • Well-versed in the latest weather technology, including WSI Max.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work any shift including overnight, weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar forecasting tools.
  • Technology savvy with excellent computer skills.
  • Must be willing to work from office in Houston, TX.

Our Anchor & Reporters - Weather are master in severe weather coverage as well as winter weather. Our Anchor & Reporters work in a collaborative and supportive role with our news producers, assignment desk, reporters, and our weather team. They are key to ensuring we produce our weather content creatively, on air, online.

YOUR DAY-DAY:

  • Work overnight/early morning shift (approx. 2:30 AM – 9:30 AM, including prep and lunch break).
  • Produce and present live weather segments for Houston’s two-hour morning newscast.
  • Connect remotely to deliver live weather segments for Sacramento’s one-hour newscast.
  • Pre-record weather briefs (“breves”) for Houston and Sacramento, plus additional markets as assigned.
  • Proactively prepare weather updates and graphics for multiple platforms: on-air, digital, and social media.
  • Cover and track severe, tropical, and impactful weather events with urgency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with producers, reporters, assignment desks, and the broader Weather Center team.
  • Remain flexible to handle special requests from additional markets within the Univision network.

YOU HAVE:

  • College degree in meteorological sciences or equivalent technical training in a meteorology-related institutional setting
  • 2+ years of experience as a weather anchor and reporter and/or meteorologist, on-air in medium to large size markets
  • Well-versed in the latest weather technology, including WSI Max
  • Thrive under pressure, meeting tight deadlines
  • Flexibility to work any shift including overnight, weekends and holidays
  • CBM/NWA seal is desired
  • High regard for details
  • Ability to prioritize, self-start and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar forecasting tools
  • Technology savvy with excellent computer skills
  • Must be willing to work from office in Houston, TX
