Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Power BI Consultant to work closely with clients, understanding their financial and business needs and translating them into use cases that can be implemented using Power ON. Power ON extends Power BI's functionality by providing write-back capability. This role involves engaging with stakeholders to scope and define use cases, estimate implementation efforts, and deliver robust Power ON solutions that drive business insights and decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong mix of business acumen, technical expertise, and excellent communication skills.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with business stakeholders to understand their reporting, analytics, and data visualization needs.
- Conduct discovery workshops to gather requirements, define use cases, and assess data sources
- Translate business requirements into clear functional and technical specifications
- Provide recommendations on Power ON best practices, governance, and adoption strategies.
Solution Design & Implementation
- Design scalable and efficient Power ON solutions, including data models, dashboards, and reports
- Develop datasets, measures (DAX), and visuals to support business insights
- Maintain data accuracy, integrity, and security within the Power BI environment
- Optimise performance of reports and dashboards for a seamless user experience
- Implement Power ON configurations, including workspaces, security, and sharing policies
Effort Estimation & Project Delivery
- Estimate project effort, timeline, and resource requirements for Power ON implementations
- Define project milestones and collaborate with project managers to ensure timely delivery
- Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate solutions before full implementation
- Support UAT (User Acceptance Testing) and gather feedback for refinements
Client Training & Support
- Conduct training sessions for end-users to drive adoption of Power ON solutions
- Provide post-implementation support, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients on Power ON strategies and future enhancements
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
- Experience in Power BI development and business intelligence consulting
- Experience in the finance industry
- Microsoft Power BI certification (e.g., PL-300: Power BI Data Analyst)
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in Power BI (Power Query, Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, and M Query)
- Experience designing data models and ETL processes within Power BI
- Proficiency in SQL for querying and transforming data from various sources
- Understanding of Azure services (e.g., Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL)
- Knowledge of Power Automate and Power Apps integration with Power BI
- Experience with non-Microsoft data sources (Snowflake, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Synapse, Big Query) is advantageous
- Row Level Security (Analysis Services, Power BI.com, SQL Server)
- Performance optimisation (Partitioning, Understanding of columnar database concept, SQL indexing)
- Troubleshooting (SQL Profiler or other profiler tools, Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, Power BI datasets, RLS security)
Business & Consulting Skills
- Strong ability to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Understanding of financial reporting, planning, and analysis.
- Ability to work with stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for client-facing interactions
- Proven track record of delivering end-to-end Power BI solutions in a consulting or business setting.
- Strong organizational skills, proactive, and confident.
- Enough Project management and business analysis experience to allow scoping of small to mid-sized projects and defining project scopes
- Excellent written and spoken English, for frequent communications with customers' and partners' multinational teams
- Great presentation skills, ability to deliver showcase/demonstration of Power ON functionality.
- Is a true team player, but able to work autonomously as well.
