New York, NYVanity Fair is seeking an experienced and creative social strategist to lead its social media efforts. This role will oversee the VF social team, set high-level social platform strategy, identify emerging opportunities, cultivate on-camera talent, and supercharge Vanity Fair’s social reach. The position reports to Vanity Fair’s global director of audience development, and will work closely with video, analytics, editorial, legal, research and commercial teams. Along with a passion for storytelling, obsessive knowledge of entertainment and pop culture, and attention to detail, the candidate should have a deep knowledge of social media trends and platforms and experience working in a creative or editorial capacity. This role is intended for someone with strong writing skills, experience with live event coverage, and enthusiasm about shaping a leading cultural brand. This is an in-office role based in New York City.
Primary Responsibilities:
Take strategic ownership of VF’s social platforms, guiding high-level editorial strategy to increase traffic, revenue, and subscriptions on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, Reddit, Bluesky, and more
Translate Vanity Fair’s existing short-form, long-form, and audio and visual reporting to social platforms
Create new formats and strategy for original, social-only reporting and content
Collaborate with video team on social video strategy; including creating new social-first franchises, reporter-led social video, red-carpet video capture, and more
Understand and hone the Vanity Fair editorial voice
Manage social team members, including overseeing and taking part in the writing, editing, and posting of content
Collaborate with editors, reporters, legal team, and designers to develop content packages that are optimized for social; including optimizing social headlines, creating launch plans, and more
Ensure that Vanity Fair is an early innovator on emerging platforms and stays abreast of the latest social-media trends
Work collaboratively across markets with global VF aud dev and social teams
Participate in planning for Vanity Fair’s tentpole events, including Hollywood Issue, the VF Oscar Party, and other awards shows by advising senior leadership and executing social best practices
Liaise with studios, publicists, and more to promote film & TV first looks, cover stories, and more
Partner with commercial team to execute social sponsorships
Advise Vanity Fair contributors and editors on social strategies and ways to increase their individual social presence
Work in partnership with audience development to continually improve how social media drives loyalty and subscriptions
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in social media, preferably in an editorial or audience development capacity
Experience capturing social video and interviews, particularly on red carpets
Experience working with celebrity talent or managing social for high-profile events
Excellent editorial judgement, writing skills, and ability to capture brand voice to reach new and established audiences
Professional experience creating and optimizing content for platforms including Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and more
Professional experience with publishing, analytics, and visual tools including Dash Social, Listen First, Parse.ly, InDesign, Canva, Photoshop, and more
Confident, collaborative, and communicative with a desire to thrive in a fast-paced media environment
Outstanding organizational skills, focus, and attention to detail
An interest in pop culture, Hollywood, and news/politics
Must complete an edit test
