Job Description

Nine, Australia’s largest locally owned media company, is seeking a Strategic Government Relations Manager. This full-time role reports to the Director Regulatory, Public Affairs and Communications. The manager will influence legislative and regulatory issues, build trusted relationships with key stakeholders, and represent Nine's interests at all government levels. Responsibilities include executing advocacy strategies, monitoring legislative issues, preparing policy papers, and engaging with federal and state stakeholders. The role requires experience in government relations, a strong understanding of the Australian political system, and exceptional communication skills.
Must Have:
  • Support and execute advocacy strategies, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor and analyse emerging legislative and regulatory issues affecting the media industry.
  • Prepare high-quality briefing notes, policy position papers, and submissions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with federal and state stakeholders.
  • Track political developments and parliamentary activity.
  • Represent Nine at external forums, industry groups, and government consultations.
  • Work cross-functionally with legal, strategy, and other teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in government relations, policy advisory, or regulatory affairs.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian political system, legislative processes, and policy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with government, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement and campaign development.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, political science, communications, or a related field.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director Regulatory, Public Affairs and Communications, Nine is seeking a Strategic Government Relations Manager to join us! In this newly created and high-impact role, you will have the chance to use your expertise to influence legislative and regulatory issues, build trusted relationships with key stakeholders, and play a vital role in our dynamic and influential business.

Day to day you will:

  • Support and execute advocacy strategies, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement to represent Nine's interests at all levels of government.
  • Monitor and analyse emerging legislative and regulatory issues affecting the media industry, such as digital platforms and content regulation.
  • Prepare high-quality briefing notes, policy position papers, and submissions for senior executives and the board.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with federal and state stakeholders, including MPs, ministerial offices, and regulators.
  • Track political developments and parliamentary activity, providing intelligence and advice to internal teams.
  • Represent Nine at external forums, industry groups, and government consultations.
  • Work cross-functionally with legal, strategy, and other teams to ensure policy alignment and advocacy impact.

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in government relations, policy advisory, or regulatory affairs in large and complex organisations
  • A strong understanding of the Australian political system, legislative processes, and policy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with government, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement and campaign development.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience in preparing complex policy materials.
  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, political science, communications, or a related field are essential.
