The Index Data Platform Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping Nasdaq’s Index Platform by leading the strategy for onboarding, standardizing, and transforming vendor and internal data into production-ready assets. This role is responsible for defining business requirements and data methodologies that support the construction, calculation, and dissemination of Nasdaq’s global indexes. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in index data for equity indexes, with deep knowledge of vendor ecosystems, data transformation logic, and downstream API enablement.
Nasdaq Index’s Platform is a multi-vendor, multi-asset-class calculation, dissemination, and data access point for vendor and derived data, and calculation algorithms that drive Index research, construction, and management decisions of Nasdaq’s global index business.
The Index Platform Management Team is responsible for researching, making recommendations and implementing standards for how and which data and methodologies are used by Nasdaq’s Indexes, and to promote standardization across the Index Platform.
Members of the Index Platform Management Team are industry leaders with a deep understanding of Index construction and methodologies and of global capital markets, including equity and derivative trading data, corporate actions, and company financial statements. Team members collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including platform users, technology, and governance.
The Role:
The Index Data House Views role will be responsible for researching and creating and maintaining rules for transforming data to be production ready for use in the construction of Nasdaq Indexes. The success candidate will need extensive knowledge of data, the sources of data and data vendors used in equity index production.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Strategy & Onboarding
- Implement the strategy for how index data is structured, processed, and leveraged within Nasdaq’s Unified Data Platform (UDP), ensuring scalability, flexibility, and modularity to support evolving business needs.
- Lead the strategy for onboarding vendor data across asset classes (equities, derivatives, crypto, etc.) into Nasdaq’s Unified Data Platform.
- Work with the Index Business, the end data users, to define and implement rules for transforming raw vendor and internal data into standardized, production-ready formats based on industry standards or internally developed conventions.
- Ensure data is bi-temporal, deduplicated, and normalized to support index construction and replication.
Business Requirements & Master Data Design
- Write detailed business requirements for the creation and maintenance of master datasets, including reference data, corporate actions, and transactional data.
- Collaborate with Technology, Governance, and Index Management teams to ensure data masters are structured to support downstream index APIs and tools such as Index Composer, Index Monitor, and Portfolio Maintenance Calculator.
- Define logic for selecting Nasdaq’s “single source of truth” for each data field, including security level derived calculation rules and QA guidelines.
Platform Enablement & Vision
- Contribute to a long-term vision for a modular, scalable, and flexible data processing architecture that supports rapid ingestion, transformation, and delivery of vendor and internal data.
- Promote standardization across the Index Platform by recommending and implementing data methodologies and policies that align with firmwide goals.
- Maintain awareness of index trends, industry standards, and the data drivers of new index products.
Thought Leadership & Collaboration
- Champion initiatives that advance the Index Platform’s capabilities in data methodology and management.
- Act as a subject matter expert on data methodologies and vendor capabilities (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar), advising internal teams including Research & Development, Benchmark Administration, and Client Services.
- Represent Nasdaq’s data policies and transformation logic to internal and external stakeholders, defending decisions with fact-based rationale and market awareness.
- 10+ years of experience in index data management, vendor data integration, or financial data operations.
- Deep understanding of index construction, data vendor ecosystems, and adjudication logic used by index providers and asset managers.
- Proven ability to write business requirements and lead cross-functional data initiatives in an Agile environment.
- Strong communication skills and a client-focused mindset that considers the real-world trading implications of index data policies.
