Job Description

This role is for an Internal Assurance and Regulation Manager within the Submarines business at Rolls-Royce's Raynesway site in Derby. The manager will provide independent assurance, challenge, and specialist advice on safety, security, and environmental compliance across two nuclear licensed sites. Key responsibilities include conducting assessments, challenging processes, advising on regulatory permissioning, and providing expert guidance on legal requirements and good practice, while also contributing to relationships with external regulators.
Must Have:
  • A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g., Safety, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Environmental Management, Security Management or CPNI qualifications)
  • Experience of working on a nuclear licensed site
  • Experience of developing, planning, and undertaking oversight and assurance assessment activities and reporting outcomes both verbally and written
  • A detailed understanding of the nuclear regulatory requirements and expectations for a nuclear licensed site as well as general awareness of relevant UK legislation, industry good practice and regulatory guidance relevant to safety, environment, and security
  • Ability to obtain Security Check clearance

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join the Internal Regulation team at our Raynesway site in Derby. You will provide independent assurance, challenge, and specialist advice across our two nuclear licensed sites in support of various aspects of safety, security, and environmental compliance.

What you will be doing

In this unique role you will be directly accountable to the Head of Internal Regulation and will be part of a small team responsible for independent oversight of site activities, which will include:

  • Conducting observations, interventions and assessments of business activities and processes to evaluate compliance and risk.
  • Challenging processes, decision-making and behaviours at all levels of the organisation.
  • Advising on regulatory permissioning, internal hold-points and/or readiness reviews for changes or activities that have a significant safety or security impact.
  • Providing a source of independent specialist advice and guidance on all matters associated with their area of subject matter expertise to the wider business in support of its decision-making, interpretation of legal requirements, regulatory compliance, and relevant good practice.
  • Contributing to the establishment and maintenance of a collaborative working relationship with key external regulators assigned to the licensed sites.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
